3rd Sunday after Pentecost
10.00 am
Jeremiah knew the frustration of having his words rejected. Jesus declares that his words may not bring peace, but division. In baptism we are buried with Christ that we may walk in newness of life. As we take stands for the sake of justice and lose our lives for the sake of others, we need not be afraid. The hairs of our head are counted. In baptism we are marked with the cross of Christ forever.
Candles & Flowers
We thank the Barbera family   for again providing the flowers and candles "back to back"...this week in celebration of Alecs birthday.  And with Alec there is a lot to celebrate!
Gone...but not forgotten

Evangelical Lutheran Worship (our "cranberry" colored hymnal) has offered many new hymns for us...but also has not included many "oldies but goodies"  for one reason or another.  Pastor will bring back and we will sing these "lost" hymns from former times...one each Sunday over the summer.  Hope you enjoy this "blast from the past" that brings back a memory and might rescue the baby from the bath water.
Flower & Candle Chart
Sign up sheets are available in the narthex for future dates...p lease bring a bouquet or arrangement of flowers on the date you choose or simply drop a $10 check marked "candles" in the offering.  Your participation will be noted in Connect and bulletin.
Nursery
Our nursery remains open but Molly & Grace are on vacation until September. Feel free to use, supervise and tidy up each summer Sunday morning.
Choir
Summer is a great time to "try" our choir.  Carrie plans to lead a anthem each of the last Sundays in June, July and August.  Simply show up at 9:00 am and the rest will take care of itself!

TADSAW
What in the world is TADSAW?  It is an acronym for service dog training benefiting veterans that has begun here at Nativity.  We've added Thursday afternoon classes for 3 students (6 if you count the dogs!)  Added to our 2 classes each Sunday morning means the increased chance of hearing barking...it's the sound of ministry!
UCM
This week Nativity donated two baskets of food (weighing 112 pounds) to the UCM food pantry.  The UCM food pantry provides supplemental food to needy families in the Mount Vernon Area.
This donation was well received by UCM and many thanks to all who made this donation possible.

Nativity for the year has donated 8 carts of food to UCM for a total of 505 pounds.   These food donations were not part of a special food drive by Nativity but represent regular giving to the community
by Nativity.

Sincerely,
Robert Wales

The Last Word...
My trusty desk calendar tells me that today we begin the season of summer...a time when time off rules and vacations are the norm not the exception.  Marianne mentioned to me that we've published "The Last Word" for a hundred and some weeks in a row without a break...suggesting that maybe we could "go dark" for the summer and pick the column back up in the fall.  Of course I could not agree to that on the off chance I would either be forgotten or get too used to it.  So I split the difference and told her that since everybody needs a break, even the dear reader, I would cut the volume in half...shooting for 25 dozen words instead of 50!

I love my big sis...she feeds me food for thought.  All of it is worthy but I only write on it from time to time to avoid feeding her ego.  She sent me this and I loved it.  "Once all villagers decided to pray for rain.  On the day of prayer all the people gathered...but only one boy came with an umbrella."

We'd all like to think we are people of great faith...in fact "sola fides" is one of the three hallmarks of being Lutheran.  And there are few years in the previous 50 at Nativity or 500 since Luther that would seem to challenge our faith more than this one.  We remember that when Jesus says "NO FEAR" three times in this next Sunday's gospel our response is to believe it...not just in thought, feeling, or word.  We are called to faith that shows in our deeds.

We don't just gather.  We don't just speak.  We believe "enough" that we would not be caught praying for rain without an umbrella...although through baptism we know getting wet isn't so bad either!

I almost made it...better luck next week!
