Rain or shine or snow ... Stage 49 Rocked on!
 
The 2017 GON PowWow featured 35 entertainers and 90+ performances and extends a heartfelt thank you to all!   Every year many entertainers who are attending the GON Powwow reach out wanting to share their talents with our  global and live webcast audience  - we appreciate you all and having been a long standing supporter of live music. We will  continue to do our best to create music performance opportunities .  Additionally, thank you to the entertainers  from Emergence Productions. EP especially appreciates your professionalism and we are both wishing you continued  successes and bookings!  
 
This year, at our new location on the Powwow Grounds at Expo New Mexico, audiences and entertainers enjoyed   more seating and a cutting edge electrifying stage & lighting design. Hosted by popular comedians Tonia Jo Hall   and Ernie Tsosie, throughout the 2 days, bands captivated audiences from hip hop & rock jam sessions , mosh  pits, country line dancing to one love reggae music. And away from Stage 49, attendees enjoyed the strolling dance   groups who shared their tribe's songs and dances throughout the Powwow Grounds, including at the new  "TeePee Village". 
 
Highlights included Vernon Reid of the 90's band "Living Colour" collaborating with DJ Logic and  several NM  musicians, Nahko and Medicine for the People jamming at the Powwow Drum Roll Call "dance off",Aunty Beachress   at Stage 49, cell phone lights and arena sing-a-long with Randy Granger and so much more! After each performance,  b ands could meet & greet with their fans at the Stage 49 tent to take photos and purchase CD's & T-shirts.

In 2018, Stage 49 will celebrate 10 years at the Gathering of Nations PowWow. After a few years prior, the music stage at  Gathering of Nations Pow Wow was operated by an outside producer who had much interest in things other than the   original concept Derek Mathews had imagined. 
In 2008, Derek Mathews and the Gathering of Nations regained control of the  stage and named it Stage 49 and established the original concept and purpose as the FREE performance space for contemporary  and traditional Native musicians. A performance experience on a professional stage, and to perform in front of large Native   audiences. a great chance to reach out and increase fan base, sell recorded merchandise and increase the frequency of gigs.

Wanted 2018 Miss Indian World Contestants  
The 2018 Miss Indian World Competition will be held during the week of April 24-28, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A.  Much more than a competition, this 5-day experience for participating MIW contestants share an exciting journey of "sisterhood" as they represent their tribes & communities, form lifelong friendships & memories, participate in a full stage production of the Miss Indian World Traditional Talent Presentations which culminating in the crowning of the new Miss Indian World in front of sold out audience on Saturday night, April 28th, 2018.   As a prestigious cultural ambassador for Native people throughout the World, the new Miss Indian World will then spend her year traveling*, when the opportunities arise, and promoting cultural awareness, diversity & the Gathering of Nations Pow wow globally.

* Travel may be more or less than previous years depending on appearance requests. Miss Indian World is a role model to young and old and help to educate and demonstrate the beauty and diversity of Native American culture as well as represent the Gathering of Nations throughout her travels.
