2017 Brick City Cup

StreetSquash Newark raised $225,000 at the Fifth Annual StreetSquash Newark Brick City Cup. Hosted by The Chatham Club, the invitational team tournament featured pros, amateurs, and StreetSquash students competing for the Brick City Cup Championship title.

This year, six teams - captained by board members and program supporters - competed in the round robin tournament. The Princeton Alumni team, led by Jeff Stanley, made their inaugural debut and raised an impressive $40,000 for StreetSquash Newark. The Princeton Alumni team also clinched the championship title in the squash competition, with a win over MitchellSquash, led by Board Chair Geoff Mitchell.

The level of play was impressive throughout the day, with some of the top squash professionals in the world competing in the event. Pros such as Alister Walker, Ramit Tandon, Chris Gordon and Clinton Leeuw all traveled to Chatham, New Jersey, to support StreetSquash Newark.

The Goldman Sachs team, led by board members Helen Vera and Eric Muller, dominated the fundraising competition, raising $63,000 in advance of the Brick City Cup. All proceeds raised through the event will support the StreetSquash Newark Expansion Program. StreetSquash Newark currently serves 52 students in grades 8 through 11. In September 2017, StreetSquash Newark will expand to serve 50% more students, growing from 52 to 78 participants, in grades 7 through 12.
