JulyAIA/CKC July Program - Plant Tour of Kitchen Kompact
July Program:  Plant Tour of Kitchen Kompact
Location:  911 East 11th Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47130
Date:  Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Kitchen Kompact is a national kitchen cabinet manufacturer located in Jeffersonville, Indiana - just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky. Established in 1937, Kitchen Kompact continues today to produce stock kitchen cabinets sold in truckload quantities to distributors and retailers in all of the lower 48 states.

This tour of Kitchen Kompact's 30-acre property and 650,000 square foot plant will take participants on a journey that begins in a world of flying cabinets. First suspended in the air, then moving along automated floor conveyers and finally coming to rest in a finished goods warehouse with the capacity to hold 100,000 cabinets at any one time. Experiencing this streamlined production facility firsthand, attendees will observe how the factory's 225 employees are able to produce from 5,000-10,000 cabinets per day... in one shift!

Learning objectives:
  • Identify quality construction and component details of kitchen cabinetry
  • Achieve proper cabinetry specifications for various project types
  • Review State, Federal, and Local codes and environmental concerns for cabinetry.
  • Learn how configuration, layout, and design of the kitchen plan may influence a project.

SMPS SELLER-DOER SYMPOSIUM
SELLER-DOER SYMPOSIUM
BUILDING YOUR BOTTOM LINE
THROUGH BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
When:  Wednesday, July 12, 8am-4pm
Where:  Indianapolis at the SMPS Annual Conference.

SYMPOSIUM OUTLINE*
During the next 10 years, over 50% of architectural, engineering and construction firms are expected to increase their use of seller-doers- that's according to SMPS/SMPS Foundation research, and almost 40% of the firms who participated in the research also say they've already increased their use of seller-doers during past 10 years.

As the prevalence of using seller-doers to win more business grows, is your firm prepared to do it effectively? Does your culture foster client relationships? Is accountability clear, with goals established? Are you working with your nontechnical business development and marketing staff to help drive success? Targeted to mid-to senior-level personnel, both technical and nontechnical, this symposium will answer these questions and provide the framework for implementing best practices in business development.

Experienced industry executives who have evolved a business development culture, as well as keynote speakers and a diverse panel of technical professions, will share their experiences and allow plenty of time for dialogue and attendee interaction.

ARE Study Guides and Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice available at the Louisville Free Public Library
The AIA/CKC recently purchased a copy of the Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice (15th edition) and donated the copy to the Louisville Free Public Library.  In response to a recent request.  The intent was to make this book available to candidates studying for the ARE although this book may be checked out by anyone with a library card.
Also, as a reminder, the ARE Study Guides (version 4.0) were purchased about three years ago by the chapter and donated at the Louisville Free Public Library for use by candidates studying for the ARE.  These study guides are still available.

Please pass this information along to architectural interns you know studying for the ARE!
