Global Leadership Summit
coming to Jarvis Memorial

I hope by now you know that Jarvis Memorial will be host site for this year's Global Leadership Summit, scheduled for August 10-11, 2017 in the Taft Christian Life Center. We are an official satellite location for The Summit, the Willow Creek Association's annual world-class leadership event, broadcast via satellite from the Willow Creek campus near Chicago. This is one of the most accessible and affordable opportunities for leadership development available anywhere.

The Global Leadership Summit offers more tools for the leader's toolbox, both veteran and new (emerging)  leaders from your business, church, or non-profit. Many groups use this event as a leadership retreat, building and strengthening relationships, while sharpening their skills and abilities together. This year the theme of the Summit is "Influence."  Take a moment to watch Bill Hybels, founding pastor of Willow Creek, as he explains the significance of this year's gathering.

The teaching is not exclusive to one church or business size, but targets principles of leadership which are applicable to any setting. The Summit, reaches across denominational and ethnic lines. Your participation will link you to an audience of Summit participants totaling over 400,000 world-wide. Yet, this is so much more than a church leadership conference. It is a great opportunity to provide meaning and value to the business communities represented by each member  of our congregation. In short, every participant will be given the opportunity to strengthen their contribution in the workplace and the world; to discover our unique potential to steward the influence we already have day-to-day.

Jarvis Memorial is proud to partner with our friends at Practicon in making this  opportunity available to the people of eastern NC. This will be the first time in the twenty-two year history of GLS that it has ever been offered in Greenville. Please share this with your friends, co-workers, neighbors, UMW Circle, Sunday School class, etc...   The cost for the two-day event is only $89 to Jarvis Memorial members. Pastor's Reading Circle

Scouting The Divine by Margaret Feinberg

What does it mean to know that Jesus is the Good Shepherd when the only place you've encountered sheep is at a petting zoo? How can you understand the promise of a land overflowing with honey when you buy yours in a bear-shaped bottle? Can you grasp the urgency of Jesus' invitation to abide in the vine when you shop for grapes at a local grocery store? Popular author and speaker Margaret Feinberg invites you to accompany her on the spiritual adventure of a lifetime. Explore how ancient livelihoods illuminate meaningful Christian truths that apply to life today. Join us on Sunday, July 23 from 6:00 to 7:30 in the Conference Room.

Shoes for Alexis -No Cost Fund Raiser

Alexis is a youth member of Richlands United Methodist Church in Richlands, NC. She is a Type 1 severe diabetic and in need of a special alert dog to help with this debilitating disease.

Alexis and her family, along with the Richlands UMC church family, are working with Angel Bins (https://angelbins.com)  to raise funds so that they may purchase a specially trained service animal which costs $25,000. Alexis' family is hoping to collect 10,000 pairs of gently used shoes. They have already collected 5,200 pairs. If they can collect 10,000 pairs of shoes, they will earn $4,000. The gently used shoes will then go to third world countries.

We are asking everyone to go through their gently used shoes, pair them up, and band them together with rubber bands or zip ties. There are bins set up in the Hall of History and the Taft Christian Life Center to place your donation(s). For more information, contact Madoline Murphy at 252-746-4797 or mamurphy39@gmail.com .
