Call your US Representative Today and Urge them to Support 
the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program
It is time to get signatures on this year's House of Representatives letter in support of FY2019 funding for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP). 

The deadline for your Representatives to sign is Tuesday, March 13th.  Please help by urging your Representative to sign the letter. 

Background:
In order to maintain funding for the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) , money must be appropriated by Congress each year. The first step in this process is for the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee to appropriate funding. 

Representatives King (R-NY), McGovern (D-MA), Costello (R-PA) and Hastings (D-FL) are circulating the "Dear Colleague Letter," asking House Members to sign the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee leadership letter, supporting funding for the DOD BCRP. This letter also includes highlights of the program's successes.

Please take action today and by calling your Representative using the alert information below from the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC). 


Take Action on DOD BCRP:

1) Contact your Representatives and ask them to sign the DOD breast cancer research letter.  This is the full list  of who signed last year.  Representatives from Virginia who signed on are:

Rep. Robert Scott (D - 3rd ) 
Rep. Donald A. McEachin (D - 4th )
Rep. Don Beyer (D - 8th )
Rep. Barbara Comstock (R -10th ) 
Rep. Gerald E. "Gerry" Connolly (D -11th )
  • If your Representative is on the list, thank them and ask them to sign again. 
  • If your Representative is not on the list, ask them to sign this year.

They have all received a "Dear Colleague" letter asking them to sign on from Representatives King (R NY) McGovern (D MA), Costello (R PA) and Hastings (D FL) but they must hear from you!! Contact information for US House Representatives can be found here.  The deadline to sign on is March 13th.

 

Your message to your Representative is:
I urge you to show your support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter to Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Granger and Ranking Member Visclosky calling for $150 million for the DOD peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program for FY 2019.  

2.) If your Representative agrees to sign the letter, her/his staff should email one of the following staffers of the letter sponsors to make it happen:

Also email  [email protected] or [email protected]  and let us know that your Representative has agreed to sign the letter or if you have any questions.
3.) The action you are taking will let your Representative know how important the DOD BCRP is to breast cancer research.  If a Representative has questions you can't answer,  let NBCC know at the email addresses above and they can  follow-up.
