Education & Spiritual Development Ministry
Through March 18 - Join the weekly Lenten book discussions being held following the services. Based on "Pilgrim Road: A Benedictine Journey Through Lent" by Albert Holtz, discussion will focus on the daily meditations for each week of Lent which are based on Holtz's pilgrimages and extensive travels. Books are available at Blue Hill Books or Amazon.

Women's Wilderness Retreat 2018
The annual St. Brendan's Women's Trip to Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps will be Tuesday, September 4 - Friday, September 7, 2018. The 1885 camp is reachable by a 3.3 mile hike or for an extra fee by float plane. The cost, which includes lodging, food and use of boats, is $444.00 with half due as a deposit. This is an extraordinary experience in the Maine wilderness.

Scripture Notes for the Third Sunday in Lent:
The ultimate saving action of God, in the dying and rising of Jesus, was preceded by a series of salvation events in the history of Israel. Today, in that series of events, we reach the most important of the Old Testament actions of God, the time of the Exodus when Israel is definitively established as the chosen people and God makes the Covenant with the people at Mount Sinai.
God's salvation of Israel requires a response by the people which is described in the Decalogue (Ten Commandments). Note that the grounds for these commandments is stated at the
beginning, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage."
In the second reading, Paul speaks of the true wisdom which brings salvation. Rather than human wisdom, God places before us what seems to be foolish, the crucifixion of Jesus. In the dying and rising of Jesus, God showed that the divine power is greater than any human power or wisdom.
The Gospel reading is John's account of Jesus cleansing the Temple. That event may be taken as an image of Christ cleansing us from sin in Baptism. We are the continuation of the ancient people of God who were saved in the Exodus and given the Commandments. In the dying and rising of Jesus, salvation has been extended to all people. Through Baptism, we have become part of
Jesus' Body and have died and are being raised with him. We use this time of Lent to recall all that God is doing for us in Jesus, and to prepare for the renewal of our redemption at Easter.

We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the congregations of Trinity Church, Saco and St. George's, York Harbor. For Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center in Biddeford.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for Bethlehem - (III, The Episcopal Church)
