Choreographer's Showcase

WINTER PARK, FL - May 30, 2017 - The Center for Contemporary Dance takes audiences into the rehearsal studio for an annual preview of new and repertory works from some of the area's finest choreographers associated with the organization's Residency Program. Included in the Showcase are works from up-and-coming dance makers who have emerged as "Ones to Watch" from the organization's Pre-Professional Program, along with selections from students participating in the organization's Summer Intensive Program, Classical Ballet Ensemble, Contemporary Dance Ensemble and Competitive Dance Ensemble. The Showcase concludes with an intimate opportunity to dialogue with the Artistic Directors, guest choreographers and Company artists.

Performances take place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13 at The Center for Contemporary Dance, 3580 Aloma Avenue #7 in Winter Park, FL.  Proc eeds from the Showcase benefit the organization's Residency Program,  which provides resources for seasoned and rising choreographers, and has supported the launch of 13 of the area's professional modern and contemporary dance companies.   T ickets are $12 (advance) and $15 (at the door).  Seating is limited and advance purchase is recommended; please call (407) 695-8366 or visit   www.thecenterfordance.org .  

During these up-close, limited-seating performances, choreographers will unveil a selection of new contemporary and classical dance works, including excerpts from upcoming events in the 2017-2018 performance season.  The Choreographer's Showcase features works created by:

"As an education and incubation center for emerging perspectives in dance," says Executive Director Craig W. Johnson, "it's important to introduce the community to dance in ways that extend beyond the traditional stage."  Following the Showcase, audience members will have the unique opportunity to dialogue at length with choreographers in order to learn more about the process of dance making and to ask questions about presented works.  "In addition to seeing some compelling dance  selections," says Johnson, "audiences will discover more about what motivates the creative process and become acquainted with some of the areas finest dance makers."
