Florida AG Empowers Students with Mobile App Based on Safe2Tell Colorado

Colorado Attorney General Cynthia H. Coffman has reached out to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to offer her condolences and support after the school shooting February 14 th in Parkland. As Florida’s leaders engage in important conversations about school safety at both the local and statewide level, Attorney General Coffman has offered Colorado’s proven Safe2Tell model and resources to Florida.
 
“Unfortunately Colorado understands, as perhaps few others can, the complicated challenges Florida faces in the wake of this profound tragedy,” said Attorney General Coffman. “One of the most successful tools we developed in Colorado after the Columbine High School shootings, is our statewide school safety bystander-reporting program, Safe2Tell. We will work with Florida as they implement a similar school safety program to empower their students.”

CWAG Chair, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, announces his 2018 CWAG Chair's Initiative, which will focus on cyber security, data privacy, and digital piracy. Please mark your calendars and prepare to engage in a dialogue on these important topics!

Building on CWAG's Cyber Security efforts in 2016 and 2017 at the Cyber Security and Technology Forums and the Cyber Security Working Group established in June 2017, General Brnovich's Initiative will feature an in-depth conversation to discuss financial technology and government and industry cooperation, vertical integration and platform development issues, encryption and data security issues facing public, private and law enforcement along with national and international privacy concerns.

Justice Department Announces New Opioid Policy

Attorney General Sean Reyes joined U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, along with several other state AGs, to address the nation’s opioid epidemic and deliver a new opioid policy announcement in a press conference in Washington, D.C. yesterday. AG Reyes shared about the effect of the epidemic in Utah and steps being taken to fight the addiction and trafficking of drugs statewide. In his statement, Reyes said, “When we work together, we work best. There is hope, as devastating as this issue is, working together we can overcome and eradicate this threat from our communities.”

Court Ruling Forces Department of Interior to Enforce BLM Methane Rule

Attorney General Hector Balderas announced today to that he and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra secured a preliminary injunction against President Trump and Department of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, blocking their attempt to suspend the rule and forcing Zinke to implement the Bureau of Land Management's methane rule. Judge William Orrick ruled that suspension of the rule would result in irreparable harm to the environment and also result in waste of publicly owned natural gas.

Arizona AG Brnovich Leads 19 States Urging a Court to Reject Another Unfair Class Action Settlement

Attorney General Mark Brnovich filed his 9 th  legal brief urging a court to reject another unfair class action settlement. Leading a bipartisan coalition of 19 state attorneys general, Brnovich filed the latest brief urging a federal district court in New Jersey to reject a proposed class action settlement against WTSO.com (Wines ‘Til Sold Out). Under the proposed settlement being challenged, $1.7 million will go to attorneys while consumers are left with a highly restrictive coupon.
Washington AG’s Sweep Uncovers Illegal Housing Discrimination Against Veterans

Eight companies providing housing in five Washington counties stop discriminating as a result of AGO enforcement action
 
Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced today the completion of a sweep to crack down on illegal housing discrimination against veterans with disabilities, resulting in enforcement action against eight companies across the state. As part of the enforcement action, the eight companies will stop discriminating. “Veterans are protected from discrimination by Washington law,” Ferguson said. “No veteran should be denied a roof over their head based on how they plan to pay their rent.”

Former Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens joins global law firm Dentons
