THIS SUNDAY:
Vigil for Refugees and Commemoration of S.S. St. Louis
Sunday, June 11 at 4:00 pm
This Sunday, we will mark the anniversary of the day in 1939
the United States turned away more than 900 refugees aboard the S.S. St. Louis fleeing Nazi Germany. The ship returned to Europe, where 254 of the passengers later were killed in concentration camps. We hope you can join us, along with local congregations, in the Goldrich Family Foundation Children's Memorial for a vigil to remember the refugees aboard the St. Louis and acknowledge the modern-day refugees who are fleeing violence and persecution around the world. Speakers will include Holocaust Survivor Henry Slucki and City Councilmember Paul Koretz.

Museum Docent Training Begins in September
In the words of one of our docents, "I feel that my work as a docent is one of the most worthwhile things I've ever done in my life. I feel very strongly that every child should have knowledge of the Holocaust along with the deep understanding that we are all responsible for making sure that this never happens again. Being a docent at LAMOTH is the capstone of my career as an educator and public servant."
Our annual docent training program
begins on Wednesday, September 27 and meets every Wednesday for 10 weeks.
We depend on our dedicated volunteer docents to lead tours for the thousands of students and other visitors who visit the Museum every month.
