June 9, 2017
Dear Colleagues,

We have been collaborating with our members  and various  organizations involved in global health: IDSA, ASTMH, ASPPH, GHC, Res earch  America, etc. to address the numerous challenges posed by President  Trump ' policies. Please click here to see our advocacy talking points and the specific congressional members to call.

We are asking our members to call their congressperson to oppose those  policies  that will negatively affect people's health, security and prosperity.  This includes the  new "global gag rule" which is a far more damaging version than the old one.

Also in this bulletin: we are featuring one of our members, the Univ ersity of
Copenhagen two surveys including our initiative to aggregate case studies, effecti ve  programs, and courses to address a range of global health challenges ; and an Op-Ed I wrote published in the Los Angeles Times on the  US withdrawal fro the Paris Climate Change Accord.

Finally, we would like to congratulate Dr.Tedros Ghebreyesus on being e lected Africa' s first Director General of the WHO. We look forward to collaborating with him  to strengthen the WHO's  ability to deliver on its mandate.

Please share this bulletin with your colleagues.

Sincerely,

Keith Martin, MD, PC
Executive Director

Miss the NIH Fogarty International Center Webinar? View Online Anytime

The Fogarty International Center (FIC) is set to be eliminated in President Trump's budget, which also includes devastating cuts to the CDC, USAID, EPA, NOAA, HHS, and other NIH institutions. The cuts to FIC would be a catastrophe for global health as FIC is on the front-line, creating local capacity to detect and address pandemics where they occur and forging partnerships that keep U.S. scientists on the cutting edge of research globally. FIC is vital to US efforts to strengthen health capabilities in lower income countries. This timely webinar presents the facts on Fogarty. Please share it widely.
Send Us Case Studies, Effective Programs and Courses to Address the Following Global Health Challenges

There are many effective solutions to address a variety of global challenges. However, there is also a wide knowledge-needs gap in accessing these solutions. To overcome this, we are seeking open access, quality, case studies, effective programs, and courses to address problems listed in the form below. Many of these were outlined in the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine's report on global health released May 15, 2017. We need your help. Please input the materials we are seeking in the form below and send it to info@cugh.org. This information will be accessible to all on our website at  www.CUGH.org.

Thank you for for helping us overcome the knowledge-needs gap.
Skills and Scope Survey: The Ethical Practice of Clinical Medicine in LMIC and Resource-Constrained Settings

Dear Clinical Global Health Educators, Practitioners and Scholars,

Many clinical health professionals and graduate medical trainees who practice in low and middle-income countries received their training outside these settings. Little is known about the scope of their training and their professional activities.

We invite you to take a survey to further our understanding about scope of training and professional activities by those educated outside of LMICs but who practice in LMICs.

Please email Ashti Doobay-Persaud, MD (a-doobay-persaud@northwestern.edu) with any questions.

Thank you very much for your time.

Interested in Gender Equity in Global Health?
CUGH is working with Dr. Roopa Dhatt and Women in Global Health to address gender inequality in global health. According to the Women Leaders in Global Health Initiative (WLGHI), "women make up the vast majority of those working in the field of global health, but are seriously underrepresented at the institutional decision-making level." Try using WLGHI's Event Checklist to promote equal gender representation at your next event. Also be sure to read Dr. Jennifer Martin's Ten Simple Rules to Achieve Conference Speaker Gender Balance . Want more information? Look through this interesting PowerPoint on the power of collective intelligence and why gender equality matters or read this piece that Women in Global Health recently published.
