Saying goodbye to Maude...

Our sweet goat, Maude, passed away earlier this month. We made the very difficult decision to help Maude on her way.

Maude was in heart failure, most likely due to a condition called CAE (Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis), a viral infection which affects mainly goats. Maude was working very hard to keep going, but unfortunately her body was not keeping up with her spirit.

Maude passed very quickly, and our vet mentioned that it was likely  because her body was just exhausted. We are grateful that it was a peaceful passing, and the right time for her. Maude was with her mother, April, and her friend Frosty, and they spent time with her afterwards. We know this could be an especially tough time for April, so we are making sure to shower her with extra love.

Maude was a shy little dear, who loved hanging close to April, basking in the sunshine, and making everyone laugh with her goofy grin. We will all miss her very much.

Volunteer of the Month: Maddie Hoover
Maddie has been volunteering on the Monday evening animal care shift since 2014. She's a remarkably hard worker who isn't afraid to tackle the toughest tasks on animal care shifts - anything from mucking the cow pasture to wrangling runaway goats to helping with all sorts of medical care (checking hooves, giving meds, taking temps and more!) We thank you, Maddie, for being such a dependable and reliable member of the Heartland family! Read more about Maddie...
Want to volunteer with us?
Then join us at our Volunteer Information Session this Wednesday, June 28th at 7 pm at the Heartland barn. You can find more information about the available volunteer positions here. To RSVP to our June Volunteer Information Session, p lease send an email to Tracy Henderson at [email protected] .
Meet interns Mollie & Grace
A huge thank you to Mollie and Grace who are both interning at Heartland this summer. Mollie is helping mostly with animal care while Grace splits her time between helping in the barn and with summer camp! Grace is a huge fan of Reggie the rooster, while Mollie's favorite parts of interning are giving Baine his nightly bath or holding our latest foster, Rampage the rooster (the first chicken she's ever held)! Thanks for being so wonderful, ladies!
Get your Heartland swag!
We have new shirts (like our swanky logo shirt pictured above) plus tees featuring Beau & Daisy and Baine in our online store! Heartland logo mason jars are also available. Perfect as a special treat for yourself, or a gift for the Heartland lover in your life!
