The Big Run - Fresno
June 7, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
River Center

On June 7 (Global Running Day!), 40 Fleet Feet Sports locations nationwide will do something never done before by their brand - hold a nationally-coordinated 5K race in different locations all on the same day!

Every participant gets a t-shirt. Every finisher gets a medal. And at the end of the day, all results will funnel up into a national leaderboard to determine the answers to questions like: who is the fastest runner in the country? Which community has the average fastest 5K time? AND SUPER COOL PRIZES WILL BE GIVEN!

We're looking for a few volunteers to make the inaugural Big Run a success. Volunteers are needed to assist with parking from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm. Please email Sarah Parkes at [email protected] if you can help. Come be part of the fun on Wednesday, June 7!

River Camp 2017 is Almost Full!

Young Explorers Program
Young children thrive with unhurried time in a natural setting. In 2017 the Young Explorer's program will take place at the River Center, where we'll spend time looking for signs of wildlife, exploring the Hidden Homes trail, and learning about the plants and animals that make this area their home. Each week we'll focus on a theme and your camper will participate in singing, arts and crafts, dramatic play, and other hands on activities led by our experienced staff of Young Explorers counselors. There will be time for water play and nature walks each day.  Parents and grandparents are welcome to stay and join in the fun. Young Explorers camp is held Tuesday through Thursday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Wednesday, June 21, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Our June Respite by the River will be a tribute to the late poet Jon Veinberg.

Jon Veinberg spent his adult life writing and working in Fresno. He was born in a German refugee camp after his family fled Estonia. Upon arriving in America he briefly lived in New York, Connecticut, and Pittsburg before making the haul to Fresno where he graduated from Roosevelt High School and CSUF. He received an MFA from U.C. Irvine. He authored five poetry collections, including Nothing About The Dead, An Owl's Landscape, Stickball Till Dawn, Oarless Boats, Vacant Lots, and The Speed Limit of Clouds, and was published in numerous anthologies and literary magazines. His last book, Angels at Bus Stops, was published by Lynx House Press in 2015. Jon was a recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Grants, and won The Vern Rutsala Award from Hubbub Magazine. He was a treasured member of the Fresno writing community until his recent death.

Music for the evening will be provided by Lance Canales.

River Center Summer Art Show
Mother and Daughter, The Creative Lives of Audrey Foster and Linda Foster

Art Reception
Saturday, June 17
12:00 pm to 2:30 pm
River Center Ranch House

Linda Foster is a Fresno artist who has studied and worked in many mediums over the years, including weaving, silkscreen, oils, drawing, and acrylics. After college, she finally tried watercolors and found her passion. Living in Yosemite National Park for three years in the late 1970s heightened her sense of color, drawing skills, and love of nature. Surrounded by beautiful scenery every day, Linda spent many hours painting and photographing iconic vistas and intimate details of Yosemite.

Linda and her mother, Audrey Foster, enjoyed afternoons painting at Audrey's kitchen table. They took painting workshops together in Yosemite and at Bass Lake. In addition, they had fun participating in art shows in Mariposa, where Audrey had lived for twenty-eight years, before her death in 2007. Audrey loved the mountains, the birds, and the deer that came up to her back door. And she loved Yosemite almost as much as Linda does.

Audrey created some of the pieces in this show seventy-five years ago. You will enjoy experiencing work that covers many years in the creative lives of two women who loved to paint together, sing together, and enjoy the beauty and wonder of Yosemite.
