Reflections from Fr. Rick
It's hard to believe, but Lent is here. I love the season of Lent, because it is a season of being invited by God in a deeply personal way to "Come back to me, with all of your heart."
Our first step is to show-up
. Lent is not a time for self-punishment, but one of reflection and repentance which leads to refreshment, joy, and renewal. It's like an annual spiritual check-up. As part of Christ's one, holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic church, Christians have been observing Lent for centuries.
The ultimate purpose of Lent is to strengthen our spiritual lives and draw us closer to our Lord.
It is a season of preparation leading up to Easter and holds the possibilities for real change in your life. It is the forty days plus the six Sundays before Easter. For centuries, it has been observed as a special time of self
-
examination and penitence; a time for concentration on fundamental values and priorities and to deepen our lives in God. You are encouraged to allow yourself to "show-up" and "enter- in" to this sacred season.
- BEGINNING WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 21 we begin our Lenten series. First, we'll meet in Quigley Hall with a potluck dinner at 6 -6:45 pm followed by our teaching series in the church beginning at 6:50, LIFE: BETWEEN THE OIL AND THE ASHES. We'll have a brief reflection, pray, and share communion.
- LENTEN BIBLE CHALLENGE: Together, St. Michael's is being challenged to read the Gospel of Mark during Lent. I've prepared a schedule of readings, about 15 verses per day for your prayer and reflection.
It is my deepest desire and prayer for you to know in the depths of your being the One whose love, mercy, and forgiveness knows no limits and to discover your identity and purpose in His love, for this is the life for which we were created. May we settle for nothing less.
A blessed Lent to all,
|

"

At 6:45 pm we will retreat to the church for reflection with Fr. Rick, silence, contemplation and communion. We'll conclude the evening by 7:40 pm.

Lenten Meditations - Grab one on Sunday in the Narthex!
We are happy to have copies of Episcopal Relief & Development's 2018 Lenten Meditations available in the narthex. ERD collaborates with local church and ecumenical partners around the world on long-term strategies for Early Childhood Development. This year the meditations explore how children inform our spirituality and what we can learn from their spiritual lives.
It is our hope that these Lenten meditations will deepen your faith in the risen Christ and strengthen your connection to our neighbors and partners around the world. As we consider Jesus' life of healing and sacrifice during this Lenten season, please reflect on your faith and how you might take action in responding to a hurting world.

Scout Sunday
St. Michael's Cub Scout Pack 207 & Boy Scout Troop 200.
Fr. Rick commissions and blesses the Scout leaders last Sunday.
You might have seen the Scouts from Pack 207 and Troop 200 gathering out front, processing behind the cross or even assisting with the 10:15 service last Sunday.
Scout Sunday is a national event that celebrates the connection between Scouting and the BSA's faith-based chartered partners.
Paul Layton, Troop 200 Scoutmaster, said
Troop 200 will award its 200
th
Eagle Scout rank in March. Cub Scout Nikiolay Marquette received the Parvuli Dei (Catholic Duty to God award). After the service, Scouting was celebrated with cake and a slide show of the boy's events in Quigley Hall.
Duty to God is a fundamental principle of Scouting and is part of both the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Cub Scouts must complete a Duty to God adventure each year to earn their rank.
Thank you, St Michael's, for sponsoring Troop 200 and Pack 207 since 1960! During that time, you have allowed hundreds of boys to meet at our facilities and appreciate the love of St Michael's.

Women after Hours
St. Michael's women are invited to participate in the monthly fellowship dinner of Women After Hours. This group used to meet as Women in Business, but as the lines blurred over time between business and fellowship, we decided to open the group to all women in the parish. We meet on the 4
th
Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm, usually at Dubsdread. We enjoy a 1.5-2 hour dinner of fellowship, sharing and conversation. It's not uncommon for someone to come late and skip the meal; conversely, one could also leave early. There's been some discussion about a group project, but none have coalesced yet, and that's not mandatory for this group. We've been enjoying spending time together in an informal setting. Contact Ann Redmond at
[email protected]
to be added to the monthly distribution list. We hope to see you soon!
Next meeting date: February 26

Father Daughter Dance - Thank you!
We had such a special time at the Father/Daughter Dance Friday night. Thank you to everyone who made this night a memorable one!
The amazing St. Michael's Flower Guild gave all their time and talents to make corsages and boutonnières for our Daddy/Daughter Dance. All the proceeds covered the cost of the DJ. The flowers were so beautiful and we can't thank you enough!
