 2017 Ag Tour

The Pierre Area Chamber's Agri-Interest Committee invites you to join us as we travel to the Korkow Ranch for the annual Ag Tour on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. The purpose of this tour is to continue to recognize the importance of agriculture in our local economy and regional heritage.  The tour will take local residents and business people by bus from the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce to the Korkow Ranch in the historic Medicine Creek Valley area.

The 'Anchor K Ranch', located 20 miles east of Pierre, is not a commercial hunting operation, but a working ranch which raises rodeo livestock and has quality farm ground. With approximately 4.5 miles of springs from Medicine Creek winding through the terrain, livestock and wildlife are provided with quality water and land where they can thrive. The Korkow family have been stewards of the land for five generations and over 80 years.

Participants will get to see the areas they have developed for pheasant hunting and wildlife habitat, the mares pasture and breeding program for rodeo horses, as well as visit the areas they keep and breed Brahma cows for bucking bulls. Historical sites located on the grounds will also be visited: teepee rings, rock formations and ancient bones.

Attendees will dine on-location with dinner provided by Richie Z's Catering.

This trip promises to be both informative and fun. We hope you can join us!

Cardboard Boat Builders for Fireball Run
The Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for 15 businesses, groups or individuals who would like to help students build cardboard boats for the upcoming Fireball Run. Each group will be teamed up with a couple students from the Georgia Morse Middle School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Club to design, build and store the boats. They will be used during the September 29th Fireball Run Amazon TV series.

Each team will need enough cardboard, tape and sealant to build the boats. Construction will begin ASAP in the Georgia Morse Middle School wrestling room. Teams will be assigned a designated "building week" to construct the boats. It's a great way to connect students with the workforce and have a lot of fun along the way.

We will use the same rules as the Oahe Days Cardboard Boat Regatta which can be found above. Each boat should be made strong enough to fit one large adult. Participants are encouraged to use the Oahe Days event as a trial run before Fireball Run. Have fun with the design, add lots of color and imagination.

Call Laura at the chamber if you would like to be involved or to ask questions - 224-7361

Suicide is a public health cisis.
Farmers and ranchers die by suicide 6 times more often than other adults.
Suicides can be and are stopped everyday.
Above all else, the number one responsibility of Capital Area Counseling Services (CACS) is suicide prevention.

CACS has highly trained and experienced staff ready to help people in the nine counties of Central South Dakoa.

Learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide; learn what you can do to save a life; an who to call when you or someone you love needs professional help.

Be part of the solution. Call Dennis Pfrimmer of CACS at 605-224-5811 or email [email protected] to schedule a presentation for your group, class, club or business.

Below you will find the events and activities for the Pierre/Ft. You may have seen it on popular TV shows like The Big Bang Theory or The Middle. Now the latest in team building and problem solving is coming to Pierre Friday, June 23nd.

The Escape Unit is a fully customized mobile escape room, built specifically to bring fun to businesses, individuals and organizations. It's a physical adventure game lasting 30 minutes in which players are locked inside and have to use elements within the unit to solve a series of puzzles. The goal is to complete a mission and escape before time is up.

In this adventure, participants must work together to disarm a biological bomb that is set to detonate and release a terrible virus. It's up to you and your team to find the location of the bomb and figure out how to disarm it before it's too late!  Watch the video below to for an example of an Escape Room in Orlando, Florida. Our setup will be different, but the concept is the same!

The Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing The Escape Unit to Pierre to help kick off Oahe Days and also to provide members with a unique experience.

The Escape Unit will operate from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Each session has an opportunity for up to 10 participants. When registering, you must select your specific time slot.
