The aptly named event "Jews, Shmooze and Canoes" was just that - a great way to end another productive year for Hillel students by hanging out for the June 9th weekend at Camp BB Riback. Students from Edmonton and Calgary are looking forward to more Jewish engagement on campus in the fall.
It's hard to think of a better way to enjoy a warm Sunday than at Popsicles in the Park, sponsored by PJ Library® Calgary and JAC. Bubbies, babies, bubbles and bouncing, critters and cold popsicles kept families entertained for hours on June 4th.
Israel, past and present, was illustrated in 2 events in early June. The first, on June 5th, was a fascinating panel discussion on the 6 Day War, with historians Dr. David Bercuson and Shaiel Ben-Ephraim  and personal anecdotes from David Busheikin and Riki Heilik. On June 7th, Dr. Menashe Zaaroor, invited by Federation, described a new Israeli medical technique that has shown great promise treating movement disorders. He is working with local physicians on implementing the techniques here.

Mazel Tov to Leslie Gales, who assumed the role of Chair of the board, Jewish Federations of Canada - UIA (our national organization) on June 4th, succeeding Julia Berger Reitman. Ms. Gales said:“Together we will continue to plan for the future as we explore the opportunities and challenges impacting the Canadian Jewish community and the Jewish people in these complex times.”
