St. Michael's Academy
:
It was a bittersweet day today as we held our Mass of Thanksgiving and 8th grade Pinning Ceremony. We are always so proud of our graduating students as we watched many of them go from small preschoolers to mature 8th graders. They provided a special treat for those in attendance at Mass when they performed "Just Give Me Jesus". See the link below if you would like to watch their performance.
After Mass, we held our 8th Grade Pinning Ceremony. This ceremony was established three years ago to promote the relationship between our donors and our students. The ceremony offers the donors an opportunity to meet with individual students and hear how an SMA Catholic education has helped shape each of them to become the person they are today. We were also happy to invite our parents to witness this significant pinning tradition.
Next week they will continue their adventures as they wrap up their finals and relax a little during their class trip to High Meadows.
Peace,
Ann E. Dougal
Principal

8th Grade Student Graduate
What an amazing year this has been! The class of 2017 has had many great successes throughout the 2016-2017 school year. They have worked hard to master difficult concepts, showcase their academic and social strengths, as well as prepare themselves for the transition to high school.
St. Michael's Academy has provided the class of 2017 with an opportunity to learn and grow. Your investment in their education has afforded them the opportunities that no other school in the area can. First and foremost, the class of 2017 has grown spiritually in their personal reflections and lives. This deeper understanding of the gifts that God instills in each of us and our ability to share that with the world around us, was never more apparent as they presented the Living Stations of the Cross in April. There was a reverence to the dramatization that truly showed how in tune the students were with the foundation of learning and principles instilled here at St. Michael's Academy.
Secondly, SMA has provided students with the skills necessary to approach complex tasks with confidence and independence not always shown by students their age. Selecting a science fair topic, researching previous information related to the idea and developing a sound strategy to test their thinking, could only happen with years of practice and encouragement. Students here learn to trust their instincts and value the information they have learned, knowing that it is so much more than what is found in textbooks.
Last but not least, the graduating class of 2017 has learned many of the "soft skills" that the larger world takes for granted. They have learned to greet people with a handshake, look someone in the eye when carrying on a conversation, and how to speak intelligently on a wide range of topics. The students have learned compassion for others, charity that begins at home and extends to the community, and the inner strength to persevere in the face of challenges.
We congratulate the class of 2017 on all they have accomplished. We thank the extended community who supports our mission and has made the success of the class possible. It takes a village to raise a child and everyone at St. Michael's has contributed to the success the class of 2017 can now celebrate.

School Mass
|
Mass of Thanksgiving
We celebrated a special Mass of Thanksgiving today in honor of our 8th grade who will soon be graduating. Thank you to Fr. Mark Mengel, Fr. Robert White and Msgr. Daniel Liston for celebrating Mass with us.
Of particular highlight was the speech of Anthony who talked about his years at St. Michael's Academy. He spoke of the impact it has had on his life and he gave a special thank you to our SMA donors who were in attendance at the Mass. Tony's articulate words were delivered with feeling and sincerity as he perfectly summed up his SMA experience.
The Mass concluded with an extraordinary performance by all the 8th grade students as they sang "Just Give Me Jesus." To view the performance,

Grade 1 Goes To Big Y
The 1st grade students had a blast this week going to the Big Y and learning about all the different things that are included in a grocery store. Students were able to visit the bakery and decorate their own cupcake, visit with a lobster, scan their own groceries and see a pizza being made. And that's just to name a few of the things!
Thanks to the folks over at the Big Y in East Longmeadow for showing them a great time!
