Citizens' Police Academy expands into Police
Citizens' First Responder Academy

The Brookings Police Department has revised the Citizens' Police Academy to include information about other police and public safety related departments.  They have also renamed it. It is now Citizens' First Responder Academy.
Along with this they have increased the class to 13 weeks.

This semester the class will start on Tuesday, March 6th
with the last class being held on Tuesday May 29th.

Note that the ending date is after we are done with the Spring semester.  Students who want to participate in this class and get SDSU credit for it are required to attend the class until it ends and also complete the service activity, which we can complete during the regular semester. If you would like to take this class for credit you will be allowed to take an incomplete and when the class is successfully completed the grade will be changed.

Students who would like to participate in this for 2 credits from SDSU need to do the following:
1) Click on the link below, download the application and return the completed application to the Brookings Police Department. Do this soon as once the class is full they will not accept any more students.
2) Contact Marlene.schulz@sdstate.edu to sign up for SOC 286-Citizens Police Academy. The cost for this 2 credit class is the same as the cost for other 2 credit classes.

Students who would like to participate, but not get SDSU credit need to do the following:
1) Click on the link below, download the application and return the completed application to the Brookings Police Department. Do this soon as once the class is full they will not accept any more students.

Here is a brief description of the training. More information is available at the link below.

For 13 weeks, class attendees will receive information and instruction on the Brookings Police Department, Brookings Sheriff Office, University Police Department, Department of Criminal Investigations, Brookings Fire Department,  Highway Patrol, Court Services, Probation, Parole and Brookings Emergency Medical Services. This program is not an accredited certification course.

The first class will be at the Brookings Police Department on March 6. Classes are held every Tuesday evening from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The last class will be May 29, 2018.

To apply for this free seminar please complete the application and email it to Patrol Officer Drew Garry at dgarry@brookingsleo.org or stop by the Brookings Police Department and pick up an application today.
