Congregation Annual Meeting

All members are invited (and encouraged!) to attend the Annual Meeting. At the meeting, we will elect Board, Nominating Committee and Foundation members, approve the annual budget for the 2017-2018 fiscal year, and hear an update on the Capital Campaign and construction projects.The Board will also share information about a potential interim minister and update on Rev. Susan's Presidential campaign. We will also recognize outgoing elected leaders.

Children's Day at the UUCP Community Book Corner

| June 4 will be Children's Day at the book corner featuring an array of books beloved by children from the very young to older children. Adults will find a few books highlighted for them with the themes of Ambiguity and Paradox. |

Jam-packed fun for children, ages 3 -13! Organized in age-based "tribes," kids dance, act, drum, create, play, perform and have a rollicking good time. Experienced teachers and teen counselors create a memorable and high energy experience for Kampers.

| On the second Thursday, we will meet in Annex B in a traditional Small Group format, engaging in deep discussions led by Jonny Lifshitz, following the Small Group packet on the monthly congregational theme. This time set aside for adult discussions feels amazing, as the littles will be cared for at Chalice Kids, free programming in room 15 provided by the children's ministry. |

This month, we will do an immigration 101 teach-in, including several short films and movie clips. Maria Castro and Ernesto Lopez from Puente will give updates on the current realities for immigrants in US, plus an overview of the immigration justice movements.

| Come join fellow UU's at UUCP for a few events that are happening at General Assembly in New Orleans, Louisiana.
On Thursday, June 22 at 6:00 PM we will be live streaming the Service of the Living Tradition. The Ministries and Faith Development Staff Group invites you to join us at this service where we honor fellowshipped and credentialed religious leaders, remember those who have died, recognize those who have completed active service, and welcome those who have received fellowship or credentialed status in the past year. |

will host a live screening of the last candidate forum before the UUA Presidential election on June 24. The UUA General Assembly will elect a new UUA president on June 24. Three candidates are running for one six-year term: the Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray (susanfrederickgray.com), the Rev. Alison Miller (alisonforuuapresident.org), and the Rev. Jeanne Pupke (jeannepupke.com).

we will livestream the General Assembly Ware Lecturer, Bryan Stevenson. Bryan Stevenson is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Stevenson is a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer who has dedicated his career to helping the poor, the incarcerated and the condemned. Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill and aiding children prosecuted as adults.

The Children's Art Exhibit consists of contributions
from Desert View Learning Center (Kindergarten through Fourth grade) and the Early Education Cooperative Preschool (ages 2 -5).
Sonja Saar, who teaches art at DVLC, is dedicated to drawing out the artist within every child. The EEC encourages art expressions which are developmentally
appropriate and enhance a child's creativity.

| The UU congregation in Flagstaff is having a fundraiser during the weekend of June 23-June 25. They are offering hospitality and there are 7 rooms available that weekend ranging from one with a queen bed to one with a few twin beds for a $70 per night donation. This is the weekend of "Pride in the Pines" and "Flagstaff Folk Festival." For more information or to reserve a room, please email the Beacon office below. |

The Al Saleh family and the UUCP Refugee Assistance Program thanks the congregation for the much needed household items and cash donations. This Syrian family, of nine, expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the generosity of the congregation when they received the gifts.
