A Few Words from Our Students

The last two weeks you have heard from Mr. Sonntag and Mrs. Tomei about the Pleasantdale Portrait of a Graduate as seen through their eyes at school. This week, we are going to go straight to the middle school students themselves to see what they think and how some of their learning activities are helping them to be knowledgeable and empathetic communicators, respectful and creative problem solvers, passionate and confident individuals, and collaborative and responsible global citizens.

Although there may be snow on the ground, Pleasantdale District 107 is gearing up for our Summer Academy 2018!  We are excited to offer students currently in grades PreK - 7 the opportunity to take summer enrichment classes to further their learning while having fun!  Summer Academy classes will be held at Pleasantdale Middle School on Monday - Friday from June 11 to July 6 (no class July 4 in observance of Independence Day) with classes offered from 8:50 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. *New this year! Pleasant Dale Park District has coordinated with the school district to provide an opportunity for families to send their children to Park District Summer Camp for a reduced rate.   This opportunity is available only for families with children attending all 3 sessions of Summer Academy classes. *  Take a look at our Summer Academy Program Book, and start planning for a summer of learning!  Registration will open on February 26!

Please remember that Reading Logs are due February 23!!!!
For the January Write Stuff, students were asked to write about leading an expedition.  Although the level of participation wasn't quite as high this time, the stories were fantastic!  Students wrote about expeditions to explore outer space, discover dinosaur bones, identify new rainforest animals, and the yummiest of all expeditions: to find the best tasting macaroon cookie!!  A few select entries have been shared with Ms. Tomei, but we want to recognize ALL the students who submitted writings - they really did a phenomenal job.  Everyone who turned in a Write Stuff entry is listed by grade level on the PTO website.  Check it out at Write Stuff List.

The final Write Stuff prompt has already been sent home- the topic is time travel!  Submissions are due February 23 and we hope everyone will consider participating.  We can't wait to read your child's writing!
