Summer is a time for exploration. It's a time for spotting lizards and butterflies; for feeling the sun on your back; for taking the long way home and discovering something new; for trying a new vegetable found at a local farmers market; and for getting outside.
I re-learn to explore with my son. He reminds me to take chances and look at the world anew. He reminds me not to miss the little things and to stop and watch the moon rise whenever possible.
Thanks to you, we are able to offer wonderful free and low-cost activities to get kids and families outside, like our Lynch Canyon Trail Run and Community hike on Saturday, June 3, and many other hikes all year long. I hope to see you outside this summer - and please save the date for our open house on July 14!
The Ken Poerner Trail at Lynch Canyon Open Space is open for business. Formerly the South Pasture Trail, the trail was renamed last year in honor of Ken Poerner who retired as Solano Land Trust's land steward after 17 years.
As land steward, Ken spent thousands of hours improving and building trails on our properties, and now he is forming a new trail while birding across America.
Gather with old friends and meet new ones; nourish your body and soul; and support a local, environmentally-friendly cause at Friday Nights at the Farm in Green Valley. The event happens every second Friday night now through October at the corner of Green Valley Road and Vintage Lane.
Nestled at the base of the iconic, oak-covered hills that adorn Green Valley is a protected area dedicated to preserving the rich agricultural way of life.

A place at the table
Local effort yields national results
When you contribute to Solano Land Trust as a docent or a donor, you should know that your contributions are vital to a much larger movement. You should also know that you have a place at that table.
This year, Land Trust Alliance (LTA) president Andrew Bowman invited Solano Land Trust's executive director Nicole Braddock to join the leadership council...
Hear about two devastating astronomical events
that happened in the past, such as the solar storm named the
Carrington Event, and learn why they are likely to happen again.
After the lecture and when it is dark, telescopes will be provided for everyone's viewing. Please
dim headlights if you're late, and cover flashlights with red cellophane to protect night vision of stargazers.

Citizen Scientist: Searching for Heroes and Hope in an Age of Extinction.
Read the book and join the conversation. This event is part of the Visions of the Wild Film and Arts Festival in Vallejo. The theme of this year's festival is changing landscapes.
