New Deans Announced at Indiana State University
|
Colleges of Education and Arts and Sciences gain new leadership
|
Indiana State University officials have named two new deans. Dr. Mike Licari, provost and vice president of academic affairs, announced Christopher Olsen will serve as the dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, and Janet Buckenmeyer will serve as dean of the Bayh College of Education.
|
Christopher Olsen has been a member of the Indiana State faculty since 1999 and has served as chair of the history department from 2002 to 2016, when he was selected as interim dean of the college.
Olsen has published and presented numerous academic articles, books and book chapters; has served on an array of panels; and provided invaluable institutional service to ISU and within his discipline.
|
Janet Buckenmeyer comes to Indiana State from Armstrong State University, where she has worked as dean and professor in the College of Education since 2015.
At Armstrong State, Buckenmeyer provided the vision, planning and leadership for the College of Education, its faculty and its students; led strategic planning efforts; led the reorganization of departments to facility program coherence and communication; and led the establishment of school-university partnerships in local school districts, among other accomplishments.

Welcoming new Sycamore alumni to our family
|
Commencement took
place on Saturday, May 13.
Baley Halberstadt of Fairbanks, Ind. and Aaron Schaidle of Peoria, Ill. served as
student commencement speakers, while Jessica Robertson, '05, served as the alumni speaker. After the commencement ceremonies, the newest alumni stopped by the Alumni Association table to learn more about staying connected. This year, the Alumni Association offered parents, family members, and alumni a
#BeForeverBlue box option, which included a membership to the Blue Card Club. We were happy to see an extremely positive response to the boxes.
Check out the video recent graduates, Kelsey Darin, '17, and Aryn Richey, '17 put together to show their fellow classmates what was in the
#BeForeverBlue boxes.

In her senior year at Indiana State, Neily Stough worked on a project with MasterBrand Cabinets to gain "real-world experience."
She also visited the business on spring break
as part of the Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) program at Indiana State.
"The experience and connection gave me a competitive advantage, I feel,
in the market place," said Stough, who graduated cum laude in May 2016.
It certainly did. Stough was hired as a buyer for MasterBrand Cabinets of Jasper, one of the largest cabinet manufacturers in North America.
"ISU most definitely helped me get this position," Stough said. "I am very grateful to ISU for the opportunities I was given. Without ISU, I do not know if I would be in the position I am today."

From England to Scotland, down to Italy and all the way over to Japan- there are several programs for students and summer is the perfect time to take advantage of those opportunities. These Sycamores decided to venture to Ghana for the first few weeks of their summer break. Head over to the Study Abroad website to learn more about how our students are proving that there really is #MoreToBlue!
