Effective July 1 - New Ordinances and Regulations
Minimum Wage Increase
In December 2014, the Chicago City Council passed Mayor Emanuel's ordinance to raise the minimum wage for all Chicago workers to $13 per hour by 2019. The ordinance raises the minimum wage in steps over a period of five years. The next increase takes effect on July 1, 2017 to $11.00. Please note, all businesses are required to post the Notice to Employers and Employees in each place of business.

Paid Sick Leave Ordinance
The City of Chicago's new Paid Sick Leave Ordinance is effective July 1. Employees who work at least 2 hours per week while physically present within the geographic boundaries of the City, and who work at least 80 hours within any 120-day period, are covered by the ordinance. For every 40 hours worked an employee accrues 1 hour of Paid Sick Leave, with a cap of 40 hours per 12-month period. An employee may use Paid Sick Leave for his or her own illness, to receive medical care, and for an illness of a family member.

Updated Disability Rights Regulations
The Chicago Commission on Human Relations (CCHR) Board of Commissioners approved updated disability rights regulations under the City's Chicago Human Rights Ordinance (CHRO). These newly revised regulations, effective July 1, 2017, are mandatory for all businesses and designed to improve citywide accessibility for all residents and visitors. These changes will, in turn, help businesses make their goods and services more accessible for people with all types of disabilities.
