Mayor Appoints New Member to the Westland Historical Commission

Westland, MI -- Mayor William R. Wild has appointed a new member to the Wesltland Historical Commission, filling one of the remaining vacancies.

Melissa DeLuka has lived in Westland since 2000. She works as a Quality Supervisor at Ford Motor Company. She is currently a Board Member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity and volunteered with APO in Westland long before applying to be a Historic Commissioner. Melissa grew up in the historic district of Ypsilanti and walked past historic Victorians everyday. She spent much of her childhood exploring the rich cultural history of the area from its Native American roots to the early settlers and later automotive heritage. She is excited to work with the Historic Commission and share the history of the many neighborhoods and townships that make up Westland.

The Historical Commission is a nine-member board appointed by the Mayor. The Commission collects, maintains, and preserves any materials and documents relating the the history of Westland and Nankin Township. The Commission also operates the Helen C. Brown Historical Museum at 857 N. Wayne Road. The Commission meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Helen C. Brown Historical Museum.
