H20 Zone Opens for the Summer Season - Westland's H20 Zone Splash Pad is officially open for the summer season.   The H2O Zone is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The cost is $3 for Westland residents.  Season passes are available for purchase for up to 6 family members for a resident is $40.00 and for a non-resident $100.00.  Group Rates up to 10 people for residents is $25.00 and $80.00 for non-residents.  For more information please contact Parks and Recreation at 734-467-7902. 

Saturday in the Park -   Wayne County Parks' Saturday in the Park program has returned. Each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., visitors can walk, run, skate or cycle safely along six miles of Hines Drive. Hines Drive will be shut down o vehicular traffic from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive so that guests have the opportunity to participate in their favorite activities in a vehicle-free environment. The Saturday in the Park program will take continue every Saturday through September 30. All ages are encouraged to participate.  Parking is available at the Hines Park-Helms Haven Area (Hines Drive, west of Outer Drive) and Hines Park-Nankin Mills Picnic Area (Hines Drive, east of Ann Arbor Trail).  For more information about Saturday in the Park or any other Wayne County Parks program, please call (734) 261-1990.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

City Council
  • The Westland City Council will meet on Monday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall.
Planning Commission
  • There will be a meeting of the Westland Planning Commission on Tuesday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall.

All American Farmers and Artisans Marketplace - The Marketplace is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public and a great place to find the finest locally grown produce, flowers and handmade goods.  The Farmers Market will take place  every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Central City Park, located at 1901 N. Carlson.

Relay for Life -  Westland hosts this year's Relay for Life event on Saturday, June 10 at Central City Park.  The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.  There will be many, fun events to participate in as well as themed laps to walk in order to show your support.  In the evening, there will be a luminary ceremony and participants can light a candle and place it in a decorated bag in honor of someone they know who has been diagnosed with cancer.  All of the proceeds from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society and will help to finish the fight against cancer.
