YOUTH MISSION TRIP NEEDS YOU

On July 8th, a large group of our youth and adults will once again head out for a week of mission work, this time in Zanesville, OH.  We need to send them out covered in prayer throughout the week!  We are looking for Prayer Partners: individuals from our congregation to pray for individuals on the mission trip.  Will you make a commitment to pray?  It's a simple, important, example-setting act to let our youth know that they are supported by and connected to this church.

There will be sign-up sheets in the parlor these last two Sundays in June.  You can also contact the church office, or Pete Evangelista at 216-647-4774 or PizonPete@aol.com.   Thank you!

2017 "CORR-AGEOUS" CLERGY
LEADERSHIP AWARDS

The East Ohio Conference Commission on Religion and Race presented the 2017 "CORR-ageous" Clergy Leadership Awards to Church of the Saviour Pastor Judy Wismar Claycomb and to COTS Pastor Emeritus, Charlie Yoost, at their June 12 banquet at the Annual Conference in Lakeside, Ohio. The "CORR-ageous" award is voted annually by the Commission and presented "for promoting equal racial integration and ethnic minority inclusiveness in the total life, mission and ministry of the East Ohio Conference."

Dr. Yoost was recognized for his leadership role in guiding and resourcing the merger of Church of the Saviour and Windermere/Living Hope UM Churches. Pastor Judy Wismar Claycomb received the award for building upon the vision, leading Church of the Saviour in continuous development as a vital, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic church.

Bishop Tracy Smith Malone has asked Rev. Wismar Claycomb to continue in retirement resourcing local churches in intercultural awareness and development, under the auspices of the Conference Office of Multi-Cultural Vitality, Will Jones, Director.

with Pastor Judy

On June 1, Mike and I relocated to our home in Medina, Ohio (338 E. Washington Street, Rt. 18, near the historic Medina square). Our move at this time allows COTS Board of Trustees to prepare the Charney Road parsonage for Pastor Gregory Kendrick's family. The 45 minute commute to church on I-271 is a breeze (as long as I avoid rush hour), and I am enjoying concluding visits, lunches and consultations. My last worship services as your pastor are June 25, 2017, when we commend and commission your new Lead Pastor, Andy Call.

21 years ago when we were appointed to York Church in Medina, leaving the pastorate of Oberlin First, an Oberlin church member wrote a piece for the newsletter that began, "We don't want to die, but we all want her to bury us." Janet was addressing the time honored covenant among clergy colleagues that respects the tender opportunity for a new pastor to be, to become and to grow in the sacred privilege of relationship with church members and their families at times of most critical need, as their appointed spiritual care-giver. That's the basis for the "one year rule," by which pastors honor their successors by not returning to a church in a pastoral capacity in the early years of a new pastor's appointment. I will be honoring this collegial covenant at Church of the Saviour following July 1, 2017, with one exception for a commitment made prior to my leaving, at Rev. Call's invitation and with his support.

This will be an easy rule for our members to respect and observe, I suspect, because Rev. Andy Call is already known, loved and respected as a pastor of Church of the Saviour.

You do know, of course, my deep love and gratitude for you, which, in Christ, abide eternally,
                                along the Way....
