There are a great many twenty dollar wines to choose from. The key to choosing a really good twenty dollar wine is in finding those with forty dollar components. Ottimino Zinfinity is that.  Zinfinity is made by Bill Knuttel. Though the 2014 Zinfinity has not yet been rated, previous vintages are all 90 plus points as are the ratings for virtually every wine  Bill makes.  So there you have the winemaking component.  Great winemakers tend to make wines  with excellent structure and balance.  The Zinfinity is that with a polished dark spicy plum and cherry flavor profile finishing in lengthy brambly smoky black and blue fruit. Bill added old vine Petite Sirah to get that finish.  The Zinfinity is a  completely delightful dinner wine , reminding me more of a high quality, velvety Italian Rosso than it does Zinfandel.  This wine is a compliment to red meats, pizza, pasta, a variety of cheeses and without question BBQ!

" The 2014 vintage of Zinfinity's foundation is the 50 year old vines in Biglieri Vineyard at the southern edge of Dry Creek Valley, blended with some Bradford Mountain selection Zin from their Ottimino Vineyard, their home ranch. To these finely nuanced Zins, they  added dense hillside fruit from Windsor Oaks Vineyard in the Chalk Hill sub-appellation of Russian River Valley and more old vine Zin from Rancho Bello Vineyard.  Finally, they added Petite Sirah from the steep hillside vines to enhance the density and structure of the blend. The lots were aged separately for eight months, then fashioned in Zinfinity and racked to French oak for twelve more months of aging! "
We respectively submit, THESE ARE NOT TWENTY DOLLAR COMPONENTS. (R)
All of the very best for your weekend,
Rex and Michele

Some of us have been lucky enough to taste the Zinfinity more than once.  The first time was on Ranger's opening day. We invited friends. That nights  lineup is below and we definitely did better than the Rangers! All the wines were expensive, except for the Zinfinity. While very easy to drink it has a quiet seriousness about it.  Not saying overly complex, but definitely more than one dimensional.  The Zinfinity stood with the high end wines we drank that night. Taste like your drinking more like a $40 Zin!! ( M )
