NAMIC Chapter Leaders gathered in Miami in early February for a day and a half leadership development workshop and learned the tools of the trade to run a chapter. The packed agenda included best practices sharing, problem solving and software training to name a few. Chapter officers left rejuvenated and ready for 2018!

  
 
The Chinese New Year falls on Feb. 16. and millions of people from the East Asian and South diaspora will celebrate the festival. The dates of the Chinese New Year change yearly since the celebration is based on the Lunar calendar, not to be confused with the Gregorian calendar. This year is known as the Year of the Dog, learn more here.

Brown Sugar, the subscription video-on-demand service launched by African-American focused network Bounce, said it is starting to add original content to its streaming offerings. It will be available to subscribers starting Feb. 12, in time for Black History Month.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and filmmaker Ava DuVernay launched a diversity program on Monday that will fund internships in the entertainment industry for young people from underserved communities.

The Jamaican Olympic bobsledder, who was born in the United States but is competing for Jamaica at the PyeongChang Games, started to answer a question Saturday about the importance of diversity in sports during a news conference in South Korea when she started to choke up.

Catalyst today released a new report, Day-to-Day Experiences of Emotional Tax Among Women and Men of Color in the Workplace, finding that a majority of women of color-specifically individuals who identify with Asian, Black, Latinx and multiracial backgrounds-experience an "Emotional Tax" in US workplaces affecting their overall health, well-being and ability to thrive.

Gary E. Knell, who has served as president and CEO of the National Geographic Society since 2014, has been named new CEO of National Geographic Partners, succeeding Declan Moore, who is exiting. Knell takes over the position on March 1.
