MPH Graduation
This Spring was the largest graduating class to date! The MPH program had 70 students walk this May. We are so proud of each and every one of our students, and we look forward to seeing the great impact that they will make in the field of public health!

CPHI Summer Institute on GIS
Led by Amy Hillier
Wednesday, June 14- Friday, June 16
By the end of the 3-day Institute, participants will be able to:
- Understand a broad range of ways that Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be applied to public health research, practice, and public policy
- Critically analyze maps and research results developed using GIS
- Learn how to create and analyze thematic maps, geocode addresses, and conduct basic queries
- Implement a variety of field data collection methods used in GIS such as handheld GPS technology
- Develop individual research agendas which incorporate GIS methods

Comparison of Home-Based Oral Fluid Rapid HIV Self-Testing Versus Mail-in Blood Sample Collection or Medical/Community HIV Testing By Young Adult Black, Hispanic, and White MSM: Results from a Randomized Trial
Authors including Jose Bauermeister "aimed to determine in a randomized trial if young adult black, Hispanic, and white men-who-have-sex-with-men (YMSM) are more likely to complete home-based oral fluid rapid HIV self-testing than either mail-in blood sample collection or medical facility/community organization-based HIV testing." The Psychosocial Needs of Adolescent Males Following Interpersonal Assault
Research results published recently by Joel Fein and others
revealed that among young men of color ages 12-17 who voluntarily enrolled in CHOP's Violence Intervention Program (VIP) from 2012-2016, the vast majority (89 percent) self-identified a need for mental health care, with specific goals including therapy, psychiatric evaluation, and suicide safety planning. Applying Organizational Change to Promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Inclusion and Reduce Health Disparities
"Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) populations face numerous barriers when accessing and receiving healthcare, which amplify specific LGBT health disparities. Authors including Baligh R Yehia identify elements and processes necessary to accelerate LGBT organizational change and reduce LGBT health disparities." The abstract can be found here.

Team won 2017 Health and Human Services (HHS) Award
The Penn Urban Health Lab team together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sustainability staff were the recipients of the 2017 HHS Green Champion "Good Neighbor" Award. The joint effort produces a design guide published by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) on Wellness Rooms Best Practice, providing space for lactation at the workplace and publicly accessible facilities. Fellow Joyce Lee is a co-author on the report and Dare Henry-Moss, MPH candidate, also contributed to the research page of a new Wellness Room website resulting from the award winning work. 2017 Training Course in MCH Epidemiology
June 12-16, 2017

The Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and CityMatCH will again offer a Training Course in Statistical MCH Epidemiological Methods as part of their ongoing effort to enhance the analytic capacity of state and local health agencies. The training course is an intensive program that combines lectures, discussion, hands-on exercises, and opportunities for individualized technical assistance. Two webinars prior to the training will set the stage for the onsite course and several post-course webinars will serve to build upon and extend the in-person training. More Information
