Take Back Day 2017: 
Thank Yous and Highlights
This past Saturday, June 10th, we had our 8th annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event was a huge success, with residents turning in a record-breaking 68.2 lbs of prescription medications! Turn it Around members assisted with weighing the prescriptions, giving out gift cards, talking about their group to community members, and selling water bottles and swag bags.
 

A gigantic thank you goes out to all of the individuals, organizations, and businesses who helped make our annual initiative a success. Whether it was by donating your time, money, or unused medications, you all played an important part in getting a large number of commonly misused medications out of our community.

Turn it Around Senior Graduates
Congratulations to long time Turn it Around member and the our one and only senior, Halima Hussein, for graduating from Madison Park Technical
Halima and Coalition Director, Sarah
Vocational High School on Thursday, J une 8th!

At Madison Park, Halima studied Culinary
Arts. In  September, she will be attending Bridgewater State University, where she plans to study Psychology.

Turn Up for Criminal Justice Reform
Come to the MA State House Gardner Auditorium this  Monday June 19th for public hearings on bills related to criminal justice reform.

This is the perfect opportunity for to educate politicians  on the policies and practices that have directly affected us and our loved ones.

Let YOUR voice be heard! Help advocate for the 
decriminalization of addiction  and the reduction
of racial  disparities in the criminal justice system.



The bills that we are especially concerned with include:

1. H820/H.989: Two acts eliminating mandatory minimum sentences as they relate to drug offenses.
2. H.2338: "An Act establishing reasonable limitations on the solitary confinement of inmates 21 years of age or younger."
3. H.3092: "An Act to collect data regarding the use of solitary confinement in MA prisons and jails."
4. H.719: "An Act to improve public safety by facilitating access to addiction services."

Turn it Around Youth of the Month
June's Turn it Around Youth of the Month is Casey Maloy. Since joining Turn it Around this past fall, Casey has been central to the group's success. He always helps set up and clean our meeting space, whether or not it is his turn. Casey consistently stands out at events, especially this year's 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament where he worked with Turn it Around alum, Mark Robinson, to keep score and coordinate the bracket. We are so happy that Casey joined our Turn it Around family!

Hi, my name is Casey Maloy, and I am 15 years old. I live in Revere and go to Revere High School. My family runs First Church in Charlestown, which is where we hold Turn it Around meetings. I joined Turn it Around to support youth against drugs. I like to do events in Turn it Around. One of my goals in life is to join the military after high school.
