Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
We are looking for youth to attend our English District 56th Convention this summer as youth delegates. We are thankful to all our Circuit Visitors who brought this opportunity to the attention of our district pastors and Church workers.
Our English District 2018 Convention is meeting at Concordia University, Ann Arbor, MI from June 19-21, 2018. This is a wonderful opportunity to select, encourage and support a high school youth to serve as one of your circuit's youth delegates. Travel, lodging and meals are covered for the youth delegates, so cost should not be an issue.
All high school aged youth (ages 14-18) are invited to apply to attend as youth delegates along with our voting delegates, advisory delegates, and guests. Students will be exposed to convention but not all of convention. They will be serving the greater Ann Arbor area, spending time getting to know the other youth from the English District, involved in fun activities at and around Ann Arbor, and developing a group devotion to share Thursday morning at convention.
We are able to accommodate two youth per visitation circuit so this is a first come, first accepted basis.

Across the globe
The National Honors Society and high school students at Redeemer Lutheran School, Oakmont, PA, prepared candy and flower grams for Valentine's day. There were hundreds of orders to fill. Part of the proceeds will be sent to missionaries in the Dominican Republic and Sri Lanka.

Buon Appetito
The fellowship hall at Fairlawn, Fairlawn, OH, was decorated to resemble an Italian restaurant for a spaghetti dinner fundraiser. The menu included handmade meatballs and sauce prepared by Mario Muratori. Diners enjoyed the delicious meal. Members of the youth group served as waiters and waitresses. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to future youth group activities.

Guest preacher
The Rev. Gary W. Bauch, an LCMS pastor of the mission/charity Food for the Poor, was the guest preacher at Grace, Wyoming, MI on a recent Mission Sunday. He preached a sermon and shared a children's message.

Valuable lessons
The Sunday school students at Hope, Hastings, MN, learned about the healing at Simon's house (Mark 1:29-39). As part of the lesson, the preschool class pretended to have broken arms that were healed.

Congratulations to Rachel Hensley, Charlotte Loechner, and Daniel Adair, students at Emmanuel-St. Michael, Ft. Wayne, IN, for placing in the Indiana Scholastic Art and Writing Awards! Their work and the work of many other creative 7-12th grade students is on display at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

Pre-K students at Shepherd King Preschool, West Bloomfield, MI, were busy preparing for Valentine's Day. For two days, they worked on special valentines for their families and a mailbox to use in the classroom. They created valentines for their friends and delivered them to their mailboxes. Students also made a beautiful valentine painting and played outside in the snow.

English District Board of Directors met at Shepherd of the Coast, Palm Coast, FL on February 11-12, 2018. The Rev. William Douthwaite and the members of Shepherd of the Coast were happy to host and provide space for the board meeting.

Many times, we hear about how thankful students are for campus ministry. But what about their parents? This week, we share a note of thanks from a grateful mom.
Reminding us it's worth it - Thank you, Robin!

What a wonderful, inspiring, encouraging letter. It came from Robin, who lives in Massachusetts. Her son Moses is a student at Grove City College and attends worship and student meals at All Saints Lutheran Church and Student Center, Slippery Rock, PA. Robin wrote saying how thankful she is that this LCMS campus ministry is here in Slippery Rock for her family. She wrote, "My husband still talks about the sermon Reverend Loree preached at the August service that (he) attended," when he brought his son Moses to Grove City College.

In early January LCMS Rosters and Statistics mailed each congregation instructions, along with a
congregation ID and password, to use in completing the 2017 statistics report online. Please be sure this letter gets to the person in your congregation who is responsible for completing this report.
Due date for completing the form is February 28, 2018
If you have not received this letter yet or have questions, please email
[email protected] or call the LCMS Church Information Center at 888-843-5267.
This statistical information will be used to calculate congregational assessments for the 2018 District Convention. It also assists a wide variety of ministry efforts at the national level, as well as fulfilling the expectation of membership set forth in Bylaw 1.3.4.

Christ and Phoebe Academies are summer programs held at Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN for high school students potentially interested in ministry or interested in theology. Their time there consists of confessional catechesis in classes taught by world-class professors, liturgical worship in beautiful Kramer chapel, and fun together as they build life-long friendships during activities and free time.

Youth Workers Conference
The 2018 National Lutheran Youth Workers Conference (#National18) is scheduled for July 8-11 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN. The conference is geared toward youth workers, and there will also be a youth track following the 2018 Lutheran Youth Fellowship Teen Leadership Training. Smart app for controlling device usage
There is a new LCMS School Ministry Premium Service Provider which may be of a benefit to schools, students and parents.
Parents looking for ideas to curb their children's excessive usage of mobile devices now have a new ally following the launch of the app, StudyLock. The StudyLock app is a cell phone/tablet application that offers parental control over excessive usage of devices by infusing technology into learning.
