Ash Wednesday marks the entry into our season of prayer, penitence, and fasting called Lent. At St. Nicholas, we offer an opportunity to receive the imposition of ashes during the hours of 12:00 -1:00 pm and at our SNICK service at 5:30 pm.

Quiet prayer service and the imposition of ashes at 12:00 - 1:00 pm.The Sanctuary will be opened for people to come in and pray. Mabry Collins will be available for the imposition of ashes.

Ash Wednesday with the SNICK children and youth. Please join the SNICK kids on Wednesday, February 14th as we gather for Ash Wednesday. The service will begin at 5:30 pm and all are welcome to attend.Marci Horne and the SNICK Teen Mentors will be available for the imposition of ashes
ZION Service
Sunday, March 18th at 4:00 pm 

A special service with glorious music is planned at 1848 Historic Zion Church in Talbotton.  

Debbie Anderson, member of St Thomas Episcopal and Music Director at the Springer will chant Evensong. 

Tony Barrett, Organist from St. Andrew's, Fort Valley will play the organ and arrange other music.The original Bible, prayer book and Eucharist Set will be on display. 
One of our best Mardi Gras celebrations ever at St. Nicholas! Many thanks to Alex Garrett, Steve Morse, Ashley Taylor, Kathy McMurtry, Shannon Klein and many others. Job well done!

Rector Nominating Group

The Rector Nominating Group and six Vestry Members met last week with our consultant,The Reverend Allen Pruitt, St Mark's, LaGrange. We covered the steps in the process for finding our next Rector. Initial steps, i.e., meeting with consultant, setting meetings, etc. have been completed. An "Exit Interview" with Fr Jeff is being scheduled. The Rev. Allen Pruitt will conduct the "Exit Interview."  

Questions and information are being finalized to include in a survey that will be sent to the parish. Holy Cow Consulting Firm is the firm that will provide the survey. Holy Cow is used throughout the Diocese--you may Google them. Each person in your household who is 16 years and above is asked to complete this online survey. Hard copies will also be available for those who cannot complete it online.  

The Nominating Search Process steps will be posted on the bulletin board. Don't hesitate to ask questions to the Nominating Group. They are Beth Brown, Beth Hagues, Sheri Cody, Christine Hughes, Katherine Johnson, Tom Cheatham, Bob Hamilton and Dave Halmrast. Judy Jenks is the Vestry Liaison.  

May God grant them the wisdom and guidance they need as they serve our congregation in such an enormous undertaking.

We will resume Adult Forum at 9:45 am Sunday, February 18th. All are welcome in this class whether you have participated in the past or not. We have extra copies of the JOURNEY WITH MARK should you need one.

Stitcher's Corner

Charlotte Winsness has undertaken the job of Historian for St. Nicholas. We have asked her to organize our stitcher chronicles and each stitcher submitted their comments which Charlotte edited and compiled.

This chronicle of the needlepoint kneelers will be included in the St. Nicholas history, along with the individual stitcher's comments. 

Stitchers meet again  Saturday, February 24, 10am-12pm  at St.Nicholas.
Please let Katrina know if you need yarn. If you are not enjoying stitching a kneeler and just want to come learn more about how to needlepoint, come join us!

Opportunities to Serve

Christ’s face can be seen any time we humble ourselves enough to put the needs of anyone else above our own. Not only does this help other people, it also deepens our own spirituality.

There are many opportunities to engage in mission at St. Nicholas. Please look over the lists that are in several places around the church and sign up.

Or check out our website for Opportunities to Serve. From Altar Guild, to Jail Ministry, to setting up for parish events, to praying for others, and everything in between, we can all help in some way.
St. Nicholas Writes
Our writing group, is available to help any parishioner with a writing task of any kind in individual or small-group conferences. Our members have varied backgrounds and can offer practical, positive advice on how to improve your work. We also give critiques and feedback on academic pieces. The service is free with donations to the church welcome.

We have Recycle Bins!

Our Cub Scout Troop has purchased recycle bins and placed them in the rear of the church near our garbage cans. You can place all recyclables in them except glass. Recycling saves the earth. Everyone at St. Nicholas is welcome to use the recycling bins.

Mondays at 1:30pm 
Holy Eucharist at Harris County Jail, Hamilton, GA

We are in NEED of 2-3 more volunteers to go with us to the jail, especially on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Mondays of the month. If you would like to help, please contact Katherine Johnson.
Harris County Back Snacks
Donate food to fill backpacks. We need nourishing foods such as cheese sticks, applesauce, tuna, granola bars and ravioli. The snacks help ensure that the students - whose families struggle to afford food - eat well over the weekend.

If you'd like to help out with BackSnacks contact Grant Flynn at 706-457-9531 to volunteer. 
Lay Eucharistic Visitor Training
Another wonderful opportunity to show our love and compassion in the community has presented itself and as usual many hands are needed.

Roosevelt Place in Warm Springs currently has seventeen residents and has asked us to bring communion to their staff and residents the third Sunday of each month. 

In addition  Oak View Nursing Home in Waverly Hall has also invited us to give communion to their residents. They have around 100 residents and we will give communion to them every fourthTuesday of the month. 

Martha Dimon and Bert Tomlin will be taking the lead on visiting these homes and will welcome anyone to join them each month. 

The scope is great so please pray about whether you should be a part of this ministry. If you would like to join us please contact Martha Dimon   and schedule the necessary training. 

You will be much more blessed than the residents of these homes.
