Thanks You!
A BIG Thank You from the SUMYT Team! The Spaghetti Dinner and Dessert Auction Fundraiser was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who joined us for dinner, donated a dessert, bought a dessert or made a donation. It was a fun night where we were able to hear how this ministry has influenced some of our alumni and we made almost $3000 before expenses. The team is overwhelmed by the generosity and support. Thank you!

Scripture Lesson: John 14:1-7
This Sunday
Maps. They guide us, offer direction if we choose to follow them, can keep us safe in the wilderness, help us find our way out of challenging situations, help us with height and depth, crooked and straight places. From the ancient times and on into today, they have been created as a guide. Yet they also show boundaries and borders; identify countries, states, counties and cities. Particularly today, with all the places we need to go, our GPS navigation systems can also help if we don't know the way. So, this Sunday we're examining maps. And we begin our Lenten series on the "I Am" statements of Jesus. We are not doing these statements in the order they are found in John's gospel, but in an order that seems to flow more appropriately. This Sunday we'll be exploring, pretty literally, Jesus stating, "I Am the way, the truth and the life." This statement seems to do what maps are designed to do, point us in a direction, offer us, not just A way, but THE way. But the way to what, the truth of what, the life of....well you get the idea. So as you prepare for Sunday, think about how maps have changed in our lifetimes. Think also of how often we utilize these direction finding devices, and maybe they have a message for us regarding what Jesus sought to do then, and what God is seeking to do now through us. To prepare please read John 14:6, but also take a look at that whole chapter.

A Favor...
Aldersgate friends and family, I have a favor to ask of you. At our "all staff" staff meeting last week, we talked about worship; the need to worship, and hope to worship, and even the desire to worship. Some of us like Laura, Jason, Roger, Jen, Hanae, and I play a role
on Sunday
mornings whether it's music, liturgy, leading, preaching, or teaching. At the same time, like you, we are there to try and worship. There are times when we're each pulled away from worship, or times when
Sunday
morning becomes a time of business. As convenient as that may be for some, it does take us away from why we're there
on Sunday
mornings. For instance, Jen struggles because she hardly ever gets to sit and experience a worship service as she has to to lead Kids Club or
Sunday
school. Wendi comes to church to worship and yet, often there are things brought to her that don't allow her to fully enter in to the services. Dorothy often deals with preschool matters. Roger doesn't have the opportunity to greet new people. Dave gets complaints about cleanliness or a toilet clog or some other item that needs attention. but Dave too needs to have that time to worship with his family. Laura and I need to deal with whatever is on someone's mind, and at times it is a crisis that needs attention right then. That is most certainly appropriate, but maybe save the business pieces for another day. .
So the favor I'm asking is that we, all of us, become more sensitive to the needs of this amazing staff, so that they also have
Sunday
mornings as a time of worship; a time when they can rest in the loving arms of God, find a quiet center, and feel the presence of the Holy Spirit so that they too can be renewed. They are an amazing bunch. I want you to know that these weren't complaints they shared. These were longings that came from their hearts. Each loves you very much, loves this place and considers you family. At the same time, let's give the staff an opportunity to experience the love of God
on Sunday
mornings. We still need volunteers for ushering, teaching
Sunday
School, leading Kids Club and doing other
Sunday
morning duties. It's when we all offer our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness that the work doesn't fall on just a few, including the staff. So let's offer ourselves so that these who seek to serve us in the best way possible, have a chance to also be renewed. Thank you for considering this. We all love you very much.

Easter Season Brainstorming

Mission Sunday on Earth Day
April 22 will be Mission Sunday this year and the Green Team will be helping to design a decidedly green way to be in mission in our community. If you have ideas, suggestions, or want to be part of a particular team, see Pastor Laura or anyone on Green Team.

Way of Discernment Stud
y
Pastor Laura will begin a new adult small group to work through the Way of Discernment volume from he Companions in Christ series. The group will meet on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm, beginning March 4 and run for approximately 3 months. If you are interested in a copy of the book, see Pastor Laura or order one from an online retailer. Used copies are available for about $10. All are welcome. Come when you can. Don't stay away just because you can't be there every week.

Sound Help Wanted

Ushers Needed - First Service
More ushers are
GREATLY
needed at the first service. The duties are simple: to greet people and pass out bulletins, to assist visitors and help them find a seat, to collect and store the offering, and then tidy the sanctuary after the service. The ushers work a rotating schedule and with enough ushers, that would mean helping once every 4-6 weeks.

Camp Sunday a Success!
We want to send a HUGE THANK YOU out to all of you for your part in making Aldersgate's Camp Sunday and Taco Bar Lunch a huge success. We appreciate your flexibility with figuring out the worship service and handling changes right up to the end. We appreciate every onion chopped along with all the other amazing food that was prepped, served and cleaned up. We appreciate the sharing of stories about camp and learning about what is all taking place at our Methodist camps. We appreciate each and every one of you and your dedication to the camping ministry and to Aldersgate. It is a powerful day when you hear real lifesaving stories of a thriving ministry. It is a blessing to share with all of you that over $1189 was given towards Camperships last Sunday. Aldersgate will make a donation to the district campership fund as well as replenishing our own campership fund. Thank you for your part in Camp Sunday. It was a fun yet deeply meaningful service. We have already heard from kids and families who are planning in taking advantage of our amazing Methodist Camps this summer.

Youth SUMYT Retreat
Aldersgate Youth are going to SUMYT! SUMYT is a youth retreat that is put on by the Seattle United Methodist Youth Team! (Did you know Aldersgate has 4 youth on the SUMYT team and 1 adult helping to plan this amazing retreat!) The retreat is at Camp Indianola on Friday, March 16th through Sunday, March 18th. This year's theme is "Under Construction." We will have a fun-filled weekend exploring what it means to be a work in progress, growing in love, community and faith. All youth should contact Jen Hoerber with questions and get registered online soon!

From Our Missionary in Nepal, Katherine Parker
Dear friends at Aldersgate UMC,
Thank you for your continued and sustaining prayer and financial support for my work as a United Methodist Missionary in Nepal. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity in 2017, which enables our church to send missionaries from everywhere to everywhere. UMW Funds Dispersed
The United Methodist Women Bake Sale in December netted over $1400. At least $550 was from craft items donated by church members. A huge thanks to all who baked, worked and donated crafts and, of course, to those who bought these items. We couldn't have been this successful without all of you!
Recently the UMW members from Mary Martha and Deborah Circles met to decide where to donate this money. Recipients this year are Sophia Way, Congregations for Kids (in Bellevue School District), Friends of Youth (including Griffin Home, Renton) and Days for Girls (Jo Fritze and Jennifer Ting). Our UMW was also able to meet their annual pledge to the District.

Interfaith Advocacy Day in Olympia

This is a time when God's people of many faith backgrounds can come together to put their faith into action on current legislation. Participants get to join workshops that break down current issues, learn current best practices on how to advocate in today's legislature, prepare for briefings and hearings with advocates from your legislative district, and meet in person with your legislator.
