St. John's Parish Day School Newsletter for February 15, 2018
Mind Your Manners

Have you ever been out to dinner and found yourself not knowing which fork to use, or where to place your napkin? Thanks to St. John's Life Prep, our students never have to worry about these things. At the most recent session, Mrs. Richardson, her daughter, and Mrs. Grosso showed students several handy tricks to remember what goes where, such as making a "b" and "d" with their fingers to remember where to find their "bread" and "drinking glass". They put on an excellent presentation of what not to do at the dinner table, which was a fun way to get the point across, and gave students a practical lesson in how to safely use a match to light a candle.  Students each created a place-mat of tips and tricks, which they will use to practice their etiquette during their formal dinner event in March. Life Prep is another way that St. John's fosters our students' growth in all aspects of life, helping to mold them into socially and culturally-aware citizens and well-adjusted young adults.

Be sure to check out our Facebook page with photos from this Life Prep, and a highly amusing and informative role-play video about how not to act at the table.
Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is tomorrow Friday, February 16th , and 2018 is The Y ear of the Dog. Come to the lobby and check out all the adorable doggies in our St. John's Parish Day School Family! It's been so fun watching people stop at the board and talk happily with each other about their furry friends.

Today to celebrate the last day before the New Year, Ms. Kao did a special Chapel where she read "My First Chinese New Year", and then later in the day she brought in snacks to share. As students munched away, Ms. Kao talked about the different zodiac animals, their traits, and how students can help mom and dad by cleaning and sweeping out any bad luck before the new year comes. Check out some pictures and videos on Facebook.
