February Third Thursday:
Making the Most of the Author/Editor Relationship

CORRECTED DATE: Thursday, February 15, 2018
7 p.m.
603 N. Lamar Blvd., 3rd Floor
Austin, TX
FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Of the three essential participants in a book's life (author, agent, editor), the editor's job is often the least understood. In this panel, three different types of editors and one author/editor will discuss what makes an author/editor relationship a success.

What do editors look for in the acquisition process? How do they work on a manuscript with the author? What should authors expect from their editors and how should they communicate with them? When should a writer seek out a professional editor before submitting a book for publication? What about magazine editors? What is the best way to get and keep their attention?

Come hear what our four panelists have to say about working with an editor:
  • Carolyn Cohagan, author of Time Zero and founder of Girls With Pens,
  • Casey Kittrell, editor at University of Texas Press
  • Sara Kocek, author of Promise Me Something and founder of Yellow Bird Editors
  • Kate Rodemann, deputy editor at Highline
Hope to see you there!

"Plot points in fiction or narrative argument in nonfiction can be improved through editorial work, but the fundamentals of writing have to be there from the start."
