Ash Wednesday and Lent






















Lent began Wednesday, February 14th with Ash Wednesday.  Wednesdays during Lent will have a soup supper beginning at 6:00pm followed by the worship service at 6:45pm.


The confirmation students have faith mentors who will meet with the students following the worship services for faith talk.


The Cuyuna Lakes Ministerial Association will again be hosting noon worship and soup lunch fellowship on Wednesdays during Lent this year. They will be using the themes found in Adam Hamilton's Book and small group study - "24 Hours That Changed the World" (Abingdon Press).

 The schedule, locations and themes are as follows:
 
February 21 - Cascade United Methodist Church - The Last Supper

February 28 - Salem Lutheran Church - The Garden of Gethsemane

March 7 - St. Joseph's Catholic Church (Crosby)- Trial Before the Council / Condemned by the Righteous

March 14 - Crosby Assembly of God  - Jesus and Pilate and Barabbas

March 21 - Heartwood Senior Living & Lifespring Church (at Heartwood) - Suffering, Humiliation, and Torture of the King




Annual Meeting

The annual congregational meeting of Immanuel Lutheran Church was held on Sunday, February 4th. The meeting was conducted by Vice President, Lydia Kraemer. New council officers were installed at this meeting. They are Bob Neros, President; Rick Kleinschmidt, 






Vice President;  and Nancy Evans, Secretary. Nancy Evans was reelected to the council and Casey Kanel was elected to the coun cil. Another council member will be named at a later date.

Some of the joys of Immauel at the meeting were: Sunday School teachers and helpers, CREW, Bazaar, and the Malawi Ministry.

Children's Ministry

Sunday School
 
Sunday School meets on during the 10:30am worship service on Sundays. The children are dismissed following the children's sermon.



Youth Ministry

CREW


CREW is Immanuel's youth group for grades 7-12.  CREW meets the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm. 

On Wednesday, January 24, 21 members of CREW and six adults attended the Bay Rally at Tornstrom Auditorium in Brainerd.
There was music by Campfire Mocha Blend Band and the speaker was Eric Samuel Timm who is also an artist. The theme was Forged: Shaped by Skilled Hands.





Sandy and Denny Davis will be taking 11 CREW students to Warrens, WI March 2-14 for the "Catch the Wave LCMC Regional Youth Event. For more information check out the Facebook post for this event. The theme is John 4:7-21 "Because God is Love . . ."

Women's Retreat


Plans are underway for the Women's Retreat will begin Friday April 13th at 3:30pm and end Saturday April 14th at 5:00pm. The retreat will be held at Timber Bay Camp!
The theme for the retreat will be "Come and Renew." The verse for the weekend will be Luke 10:27  He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'  and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
This y ear you may bring a friend. Make plans now to attend and be thinking about who you can invite. 
More details will be available as planning progresses.




Meal With A Mission


Malawi Days for Girls Sew was the beneficiary of the January Meal With A Mission held on January 21st. Days for Girls is a program essential to keep girls in school during their monthly cycle.

The February Meal With A Mission will benefit the Harvest Table/Soup Kitchen Garden. These funds will be used for steel fence posts and seeds and plants.

Manna for Malawi

   
Mark your calendars now for the 2018 Manna for Malawi which will be held on Sunday, June 24th at the Woodtick Inn in Cuyuna. This year's event will feature Reverend Raven and the Chain Smokin' Altar Boys, a blues band from Wisconsin. To learn moreabout this band go to http://reverendraven.com. Gravel Roads will open for Reverend Raven.


Many volunteers will be needed for this
event. Watch the newsletters and bulletins for more information.


Rummage and Bake Sale

The annual rummage and bake sale will be held Thursday and Friday, May 3rd and 4th. Start now looking for items to donate to this sale. This sale is important to Immanuel because the proceeds of this sale benefit a lot of causes. Watch future newsletters and bulletins for more information about this.


Immanuel Shirts



Immanuel members and friends are able to purchase shirts with Immanuel's name on them. There are three designs. To order a shirt see Erica Popkes at the The Shirt Shop in Crosby. The shirts also may be ordered in other colors. The shirts are on display in the fellowship hall for you to view.
