THANK YOU
GCS "LAUNCH SCHOOLS"

On Wednesday, June 14, we had the opportunity to celebrate a successful kickoff to our Postsecondary Planning System (PPS) by thanking the faculty and staff at each of the 12 "launch schools." The PPS helps Say Yes Guilford determine what types of student and family support services are needed in schools and throughout the district. Earlier in the 2016-17 school year, Say Yes Guilford and Guilford County Schools leaders began working to establish sites where the PPS could be launched. Those sites include:

  • Fairview Elementary
  • Ferndale Middle
  • High Point Central High

  • Northern Guilford Elementary
  • Northern Guilford Middle
  • Northern Guilford High

  • Wiley Elementary
  • Jackson Middle
  • Smith High

  • McLeansville Elementary
  • Eastern Guilford Middle
  • Eastern Guilford High

Through the support of parents, teachers and students, surveys were completed that will determine the types of services needed to help students in those 12 schools achieve success. Those services, which could include mental health clinics, low cost/no cost health care, additional after school programming, enhanced tutoring services, and legal aid clinics, among others, will begin to be implemented in the schools during the 2017-18 school year.

Say Yes Guilford is thankful for the support and commitment to making this program successful in these 12 schools. We look forward to services coming online next school year and to the growth of the Postsecondary Planning System into additional GCS schools in the near future.

DO YOU HAVE A SAY YES STORY?

Attention Say Yes Guilford Scholars! We want to hear from you. Say Yes to Education is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017 and we would like to collect testimonials from current Say Yes scholars. If Say Yes Guilford has helped you attend college, we would love to hear that story. Your story may also be able to help us better communicate to future Say Yes scholars who may want to have tips, suggestions or stories about how you have prepared for college, if Say Yes helped you pay for tuition costs, and how students might be able to succeed once they enter college. If you have a story to share, send us a note at guilfordscholarship@sayyestoeducation.org.

Families and students who want to connect with Say Yes Guilford now have an easy way to do so through a new texting service as part of the Remind network.
