REFLECTIONS FROM  PASTORAL CARE

We Are Called
Did you hear the one about Mr. Goldberg having the loveliest garden in town?  Each day the Rabbi passed by and exclaimed at its beauty and would call out, "The Lord and you are partners!"  Mr. Goldberg would bow and say, "Thank you."  This happened for many days, weeks and months. Finally Goldberg began to feel annoyed, even though he knew the Rabbi meant his words as a compliment.  So when next the Rabbi said,  "The Lord and you are partners!" Goldberg replied, "That may be true.  But you should have seen this garden when the Lord had it all on His own!"

Does this remind you of the charge that we are to be Jesus' feet and His hands in the world?  In Matthew, Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."

Today, we, too, are called to share the Good News that God loves us and wants us to be his hands -- ministering, serving and spiritually healing those who are hurting, in sorrow, or suffering any adversity.   One of the ways we can do that is through our pastoral response to one another.  The Pastoral Care Guild (PCG) provides an avenue for you to provide care and in-reach for our Church families.  Mostly what is needed for being a member of this Guild is a caring heart, listening ear, and the desire to share God's love through witness and ministry.

May we each continue to 'partner' with God, share the Good News that He loves us.  May we each demonstrate pastoral care to one another and be Christ's Living Presence in the church and the world.  If you would like to know more about being His Hands and Feet, see the article about our upcoming Pastoral Care Gathering on Sunday, June 11th.

May the Lord Bless You and Keep You.  In Peace,
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we welcome and accept you, and we trust God to take you where God wants you in God's timing.  We want to be a safe place for you to experience God's grace, love, and presence with us. Welcome home, Beloved.

Beautiful New Paraments to be Blessed on Sunday

On Sunday, our altars both in the church and in the chapel, and both the church pulpit and lecturn, will be dressed with new linens, called Paraments. The Altar Guild thanks the St. Michael's church family for donations that made the purchase of these exquisite new sacred coverings possible.  Altar Guild Directress Linda Wendell said the current white Paraments had become worn and a new set was needed for some time.  The old set will be donated to a church in need.  Fr. Rick will bless the Paraments on Sunday during the Pentecost service.  THANK YOU to our parishioners who made these Paraments possible!

The Altar Frontal and Superfrontal are lovingly given by Bill and Marie Cole and family. A symbol signifying God as the Alpha and the Omega graces the center of the altar.

The Pulpit covering reads "In Thanksgiving for the Life of Marion F. Hatcher From His Loving Family 2017."

The Lecturn covering reads "In Thanksgiving for the Life of Jeanne D. Hatcher From Her Loving Family 2017."

The Chapel Superfrontal reads "In Loving Memory - James Blair Thomas" and was donated by Suzanne, Megan, RJ, and the Thomas Family.
Pastoral Care Guild Meets June 11th

The central message of Christ's life and ministry was love and that we are to have a pastoral response for those whom we love in the church and world. Our Guild is about providing avenues for this ministering.

The Guild is organized into five committees, each with a Chairperson.  The committees function to meet different needs with clergy input.

PCG Visitors -  Visitors attend to shut-ins and those in nursing homes, helping them feel more of a part of our church community.

PCG Food Committee - Provides meals on a short term basis for those going through a medical or other situation when they are temporarily unable to provide for themselves.

PCG Funeral Reception Committee - Supports grieving families by providing funeral receptions at the Church when requested.

PCG Transportation Committee - Provides transportation to Church for services as well as for other needs for those who are unable to drive.

PCG Note Card Ministry -  Writes cards for people with long term issues and are somewhat isolated and to those with immediate needs such as a death or hospitalization.

Whatever the pastoral need, our Pastoral Care Guild is there to meet that need.

Want to know more? Come join us, Sunday, June 11, after the 10:15 service in the Conference Room. Snacks and water will be provided; pick up hot beverages in Quigley before coming to the gathering. Thank you!

Need more info or know someone in need? Contact the PCG Ministers in the Church Office or email  [email protected] or [email protected].
SMC To Toll Bells 49 Times on June 12th

The peaceful sound of tolling bells will emanate from the St. Michael's Bell Tower, one toll for each of the 49 men and women who lost their lives in that senseless act of violence at the Pulse nightclub a year ago.

Churches around the world are joining together to toll their bells at noon as part of  the 49 Bells of Love. This movement began when some of the mothers of the victims reached out to the One Orlando Alliance with a special idea: to invite churches around the world to toll their bells 49 times in tribute to the 49 loved ones taken at Pulse. Already, churches in five different nations have registered to participate in honoring the victims as one united global community at noon on June 12.

For other ways to honor the memory of the victims and spread compassion, please read SMC neighbor Mayor Buddy Dyer's message below.
A Message From Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer:

To honor the memory of the 49 innocent victims who lost their lives at Pulse and to support the survivors, the City of Orlando and Orange County, in collaboration with Pulse, have designated Monday, June 12, 2017, as

Orlando United Day - A Day of Love and Kindness

On this day, a number of community events and activities will take place, including Acts of Love and Kindness - a homegrown movement led by the One Orlando Alliance and influenced by victims' families.  Engaging in these activities on June 12 is a respectful and loving way to remember and honor the lives of those taken and to show compassion to those who need support.

Following the Pulse tragedy, we showed the world that Orlando would not be defined by the act of a hate-filled killer, but instead defined by our response of love, compassion and unity. There are a number of ways for you to show the power of love, acceptance and inclusiveness by participating in one of the events and activities on June 12, 2017.

YOUTH CHOIR IN THE FALL - A NEW TIME AND CONCEPT!

WHY HAVE WE NOT DONE THIS BEFORE?  - A very good question!

Youth Choir starting ANY time before 5:15 - 5:30 pm?  Absolutely NO WAY any working parent, especially a single parent, could drive their child[ren] to Youth Choir practice.

SO - Consider a new time for the Fall which we will try throughout the next School Year:

YOUTH CHOIR   2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

Wednesday   5:30 - 6:50 pm
Sunday   FULL rehearsal with the Adult Choir at 9:30 am for the 10:15 service.

Does this mean YOUR child[ren] might actually NOW be able to participate in this potentially "life-changing," challenging, and mentally/spiritually/socially rewarding program of our church?
CONTACT ANDREW ASAP FOR MORE INFO!
