June Notes of Interest

Music, Spanish, & Creative Movement
With summer right around the corner it's officially time to enjoy being outside more! Unfortunately this means Music, Spanish, & Creative Movement have come to an end until this Fall. Please be on the look out for more information in August, but for now let's enjoy the summer weather!

Water Days
Reminder that Water Days have started. Please make sure to have your child's water gear! Your child will need a swim suit, water diapers (if applicable), water shoes, a towel, sunscreen (if you don't use KKLC sunscreen), and any other accessories you would like your child to have (hat, sunglasses, etc.). A reminder that your child's swimsuit will be sent home at the end of the week to be washed and brought back the following week.

Parking
For proper flow of the parking lot, it is important that you park only in the designated areas. You may park in the spots in the front lot, back lot, or along the curb in front of the flag. You may not park along the opposite curb from the flag pole. This helps with school bus's to be able to get in, families and staff to pull out to leave, and safety of children in the parking lot. Thank you for your understanding!

Loose Parts Donations -

Our Focus this Month:

Keep track of all of those extra parts. We can use them here!
        • Water bottles
        • Paper towel rolls
        • Plastic containers

We, at Katie's Kids, would like to keep utilizing loose parts in our classrooms throughout the year.  Therefore, we are inviting parents and families that are interested to keep the supplies coming!  If you choose to donate you can drop the materials off at the front desk at any time!

Be sure to look through our center for how the loose parts are being used within the curriculum!

Thank you in advance for your donations, we look forward to seeing the creativity that stems from all of the materials!

Reggio Reads...
--------------------------------------------

Provocations can be as simple as a photo of a rock sculpture next to some pebbles or as elaborate as a table with an assortment of recycled materials next to a book on robots and resources to make up cycled robots. Often though, provocations are simple and displayed beautifully to provoke interest.

Ultimately, the intention of provocations is to provide an invitation for a child to explore and express themselves. It should be  open-ended and provide a means for  expression where possible.

Getting Healthier...
At Katie's Kids Learning Center, we are committed to providing the best possible nutrition to you and your family.  We want to keep you updated about the healthy changes we are making on our menu to promote nutrition and wellness at our center.  The following recipe is now being offered as snack at our center:

Title : Healthy Baked Broccoli Tots

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups or 12 ounces of uncooked or frozen broccoli
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1/3 cup of cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup of panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup of italian breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons parsley( or cilantro/rosemary)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Directions:
  1. Preheat over to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease a baking sheet with a thin layer of oil or line with parchment paper and set aside
  3. Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 1 minute then remove and shock with cold tap water to stop the cooking process.
  4. Drain well.
  5. Chop broccoli finely and mix thoroughly with the egg, onions, cheddar, breadcrumbs, and seasoning.
  6. Scoop about 1.5 tablespoons of mix using an ice-cream scoop or your hands and gently press between your hands into a firm ball then shape into a tater-tot shape. It helps to wash your hands after every few tots to keep them from sticking onto your hands. Next, placed on your prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake until golden brown and crispy, 18 -24 minutes, turning half way. Remove from the oven and enjoy hot with ketchup, sriracha, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce!
