Birkie 2018 - Let's Do This!
What a difference a year makes! One year ago, we had just completed a phenomenal Pre-Birkie race Weekend - perfect snow, good weather, happy skiers. BUT... the forecast was not good. Hope slowly shifted to desperation. There was enough snow to have a Birkie, but we still had a week to go. The snow hung in there but eventually succumbed just a few days before the events were to begin. More hope emerged, though - a long-shot snowstorm capable of producing 8", 10", or even a foot of snow was forecast to graze the area Friday before the Birkie. It was not to be, as we know, only teasing us with a dusting. Resilient racers and event organizers made lemonade, and we all had quite a party up at the start area. For 2018, that party will resume very soon, but with more snow, perfect grooming, and a lot of well-trained and motivated skiers. Lets do this!

This week, Judy offers up a guide to spectating the races, geared especially toward spectators supporting racers out on course. Where to set-up, what supplies to bring, places to avoid, etc. A few key points will really help your racer! Friend and Birkie veteran, Jim Coors, digs deep into the Birkie stats. Follow the trends of the Birkie, see how age groups compare, and how participation has shifted with new events - great stuff for anyone involved in the Birkie Tradition. Birkie Sale Specials get revved up at the shop. Super deals are found throughout the store. Birkie Wax Service is ready for you - let us deal with the wax stress! And lastly, Stop in at OO on 2/18 for our Fischer Twin Skin Ski Demo from 10-2. Try before you buy!

10 days and counting...

Triac 2.5 Poles - $299 - Going Fast...
Triac 2.5s are custom cut to your specific length at New Moon.

These are likely the last Swix Triac 2.5 Poles we will see.  At $299, this is a great deal - the 2.5s were originally $449 when they hit the market a couple years back. Triacs are amazing tools for speed on the trail. Racers crave the sheer stiffness, efficiency, and feather-light feel of the Triac.

If you've thought about splurging on a really nice set of ski poles, here's your chance. When they're gone, they're gone!

Not up for the Triac? That's OK. New Moon is well-stocked with other amazing pole specials with composite race poles starting at just $70. We have the perfect pole for any skier!

Grooming Perfection, Period.

Continued cold and occasional snowfall have allowed the Birkie Trail Crew to manicure the trail system to perfection. Racers can expect a firm, level skate deck and striders will see deep tracks with little ice on the floor of the track.

Preliminary Wax Reports will become available about a week before the races. We will post those once they are available and the weather forecast stabilizes.

Please review the Birkie Trail Pages during race week and be sure to respect all trail closures established for final trail grooming and prep. Alternate trails are detailed there for skiers to use during the closures. Skiers are always welcome to call or stop in at New Moon for trail suggestions and maps during race week. We're here to help!

If you're tired of figuring out the secret binder/hardwax/klister/layering formula for the Birkie Classic, here's your chance to experience the ultimate in classic ski simplicity. Try out different lengths and flexes. Find that perfect skin ski right there on the Birkie Trail!
Plan to bring your NNN boots and poles, but we will have a limited number of NNN loaner boots for Salomon skiers.
