Sam Baffes
Kellogg's Sam Baffes says category management is needed for micro markets to compete with QSRs and c-stores.
Micro markets have been the biggest growth driver in the refreshment services industry for several years. While many operators recognize that micro markets allow them to offer more product variety, they also need to realize the technology gives them a way to be more competitive with convenience stores and quick serve restaurants.

A session during the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) OneShow in Las Vegas addressed the need for operators to apply category management to their micro markets in order to capture the key day parts that convenience stores and quick serve restaurants are targeting.

Moderator Michael Kasavana, Ph.D., NAMA endowed professor emeritus, introduced the session, titled, "Applying Category Management to Grow Your Micro Market."

Sam Baffes, a member of Kellogg Company's category management team, advised her listeners that convenience stores and quick serve restaurants have boosted specific day part offerings to increase sales. She said micro markets give vending operators a tool to compete for critical day part sales, but they need to use category management to do so successfully.

VPOS enables cashless payment from all the leading payment methods, including Visa, Mastercard, ApplePay, Samsung Pay, Android Pay, Nayax's own Monyx Wallet payment app and more. VPOS is suitable for prepaid cards and will let airport employees receive discounts with their employee cards.

Everest Ice and Water Systems has partnered with SandenVendo America to offer customers an ice and water vending machine using Everest's patented dispensing technology.
"We've been researching ice vending for a number of years, but we were never really impressed with the technology out there. However, when we found Everest, we were blown away by the design," said Mike Weisser, vice president of sales and marketing at SandenVendo America. "The issue with most ice vending machines is the maintenance. Ice jams are common to these machines. Everest, however, has designed a machine that eliminates that issue."
With Everest's VersaVend dispensing system, ice is agitated and dispensed in one single step using gravity rather than mechanical beaters and augers.

BeanBrew's grinding technology results in finely ground beans that are consistent in size for a smooth flavor.

The brewer's grinding unit is powered by a high performance motor, grinding the coffee beans to a fine and uniform consistency even at low RPMs.

The brewing process involves a comprehensive method of steaming and pressing the beans to extract maximum flavor and aroma.
