A VERY UNIQUE NZ FLY BRAND IN A BIG WORLD!

A big hello from sunny Athol to you all.

Yes, Its been basically the perfect weather for fly fishing everyday since October and the hottest driest year in over 70 years.

Lucky for us all eventually we did get some much needed rain, It all came in one day and even took out a bridge half way down the Mataura river.

The rivers have now all dropped and are low and clear.

Nearly all the small streams that run into any main rivers beside my home dried up last month and fish were left to die on the rocks.

Lucky though for some fish due to the awesome work of fish and game and locals, a few trout were rescued from there shrinking cut off pools and taken to the main rivers to swim free again.

I was up one river getting river rocks one evening for landscaping. One cut off pool which had a few trout trapped in it was surrounded by shags(a big black bird that eats fish).
The shags had realized they had suddenly easy pickings and some of them when I approached  with the trusty Trigger at my side they struggled to fly off, as there bellies were full of fish. Trigger had plenty fun chasing them around as they clumsily took off made a bid for freedom.

To be honest I have not done much fishing around my home waters as such ,due to the amount of overseas and out of town locals fishing the area. Its great to know though, That people are out there doing it and having fun.

Though driving past one of the upper access points my client spotted this bra on the f & g sign. I just had to stop and get a photo Looks like some one was practicing catch and release!!  It was a pity I was not there to help take a photo of the release !!

SAGE MOD FLY ROD

These new additions to guiding equipment have been well received.

Most of my clients even if they normally use really fast and stiff action rods have been having a blast using these rods especially with the short casts and dry fly action that has been happening for the past month.

These rods are a medium fast action and are great for us oldies who get more relaxed in our casting as we get older. Though maybe that's just me.

I 've had glowing recommendations for your flies from several different people at my regular spot.

Hey mate, Lovin your spinner patterns down here in TAS and the gum beetle flies too. Thanks Mark-, Tasmania, Australia

Staying beside the river helps me know whats going on everyday.  last week  at first light mayfly spinners were out in force and covered my old vehicles roofs, maybe it looked like water. It was interesting watching them lay there eggs and die. Us humans seem to like things like that!

Stu, You were right with your damsel selection you sent me. They did the job on every lake we visited in Tasmania. My mates were so impressed even though they tie there own flies normally. They are going to be putting in some orders as I am not giving them any more of mine! keep up the great work mate.
Hello Stu, If only had of known about your gum beetle fly designs years ago. I have been struggling for years to find the perfect gum beetle fly design. The trout were refusing other flies though came up and took your beetles. Caught my biggest lake brown on a green one, was around 5 lb, I will send you a photo of it when I get a chance.  Chad - Australia
