Dear St. Isidore Families,
God Is Love
Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. The purpose of Lent is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ, his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, and resurrection. This special time of prayer and reflection ultimately brings us closer to God. I find it fitting in a way that the beginning of Lent falls on Valentine’s Day this year. Valentine’s Day is a day dedicated to
LOVE,
and ultimately God is
LOVE
. I wish you a wonderful Valentine’s Day and a peaceful Lenten season.
Every year, our eighth grade students write daily Lenten reflections. It is always wonderful to see into the hearts of the students through these reflections. To sign up to receive these reflections,

Happy Random Acts of Kindness Week (RAOK)! They say an act of kindness is contagious and can change the world. I encourage you to do an act of kindness, small or large, with your child. The feeling that comes with surprising someone with an unexpected act of kindness is truly special. Speaking of which: thank you, Tucker family and Clementine’s Restaurant, for treating the staff to an amazing “Fat Tuesday” lunch yesterday. All appreciated your act of kindness.
Grandparents Day was absolutely perfect! Our third grade teachers did a wonderful job planning this event. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who decorated and served. The
LOVE
and joy felt during the event was evident to all.
Science at SIS rocks!
On Saturday, February 10th, our Science Fair winners traveled to St. Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda to compete in the CSDO Science Fair. I want to congratulate eighth graders Maggie Bowes for winning third place, Kristen Rizkalli and Graham McIntyre for winning second place, and seventh graders Robbie Malnight, Ava Conte, and Nick Johnson for winning first place. Awards were given out by the Oakland Diocese Superintendent, Kathleen Radecke. Good luck to Ava and Nick who will be moving on to the county competition. I am so proud of all of you! The Green Team and our science teacher, Mrs. Gilchrist, is asking people to participate in
Zero Waste Wednesdays
and the
No to Straws
campaign during Lent. Zero waste means packing recyclable, compostable, and reusable lunches. It is amazing how much waste can be eliminated by making a conscious effort to do so.
