From your Principal...
Dear STM Families,

This is the first time I can remember that Valentines Day and Ash Wednesday fall on the same date. On Valentine's day we give gifts of flowers and chocolates to those we care about. On Ash Wednesday, we receive ashes on our foreheads as a sign of the beginning of the penitential season of Lent. Both occasions remind us of love. The love we have for God and others, along with the love God and others have for us. The Lenten season is a time to work consciously on doing things right and improving our relationship with God. We can do this by not only making sacrifices, but also by being merciful, attentive, and generous to others. For more ideas on how you can make Lent more meaningful for your family, click here.

Today we celebrated Mardi Gras with parades and songs. For Ash Wednesday tomorrow, we will have an all school Mass. Please note, the school office will be closed during Ash Wednesday Mass.  If your child is late to school and arrives during Mass, please bring him/her directly to church. While we will not be having Valentine's Day parties, students in K-8th grade may bring a non-food treat/card for their classmates. Remember that students must bring a treat/card for everyone in their homeroom.

Looking ahead, we will be recognizing Go Texan Day on Friday, February 23rd as our city kicks off the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Students will be allowed to wear jeans and a western shirt to school that day. No boots or hats will be allowed.

Things to Know
Yours in Christ,

Kristen Thome
