6TH ANNUAL "CHAIR-LEADERS ENABLING ACCESS EVENT"

The 6TH annual "CHAIR-LEADERS Enabling Access Event", presented by the Spinal Cord Injury Alberta, Grande Prairie Region will take place in Grande Prairie on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 and will increase awareness of accessibility, mobility issues and of spinal cord injuries and the capacity for employment The special event will feature a brief safety orientation to wheelchair use, opportunities to use a hand-cycle and to join in on a wheelchair bowling game, and a full day on the job.

Chair-Leaders are people who use a wheelchair for the day, at home, in the workplace or at play. The event helps policy writers and decision makers to consider the value of barrier-free built environments for home, work or play.

Leaders from Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie and other local communities are invited. These able bodied individuals will experience some of the barriers persons with disabilities face on a day to day basis. Such awareness will help develop our communities be fully inclusive, fully participate in our community and reach their full potential while engaging in this unique experience.

Your involvement will help shape Alberta's future in becoming a barrier-free province while making our communities more accessible to persons who use mobility aids. Respected community leaders will be visible and credible advocates for persons with low mobility throughout the province.

Members of the media and the public are invited to stop by the Bowling Stones Ten-Pin Entertainment Centre at 4:00 for a chance to speak to our totally awesome (and tired) Chair-Leaders and our Chair-Leader Ambassadors.

The campaign hopes to raise awareness of issues surrounding mobility, independence, and self-reliance within the Peace Region. Opportunities for on-line giving can be found at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/donate/. Funds collected during the special event will be used to help Spinal Cord Injury Alberta continue to expand services to clients in our communities.
