YOU'RE INVITED TO
THREE GREAT EVENTS
AT LOCAL 802

1. DIGITAL JUSTICE: The music world is buzzing about federal copyright legislation, with the introduction of the Music Modernization Act (MMA) and Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement (CASE) Act. Interested in getting involved in this issue? Join the #ArtistRightsCaucus for its next meeting this Thursday, Feb 15, 6 PM on the fifth floor of Local 802. Conversation will include discussion of the MMA, the CASE Act, the Fair Play, Fair Pay Act, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. RSVP here.

2. PUBLICIZE YOURSELF: What does a publicist do? When is it the right time to engage a publicist? What are the best ways to publicize yourself in the era of digital platforms, social media and an app-driven culture? Jazz publicists Lydia Liebman, Matt Merewitz and Jason Paul Harman Byrne will be on hand at Local 802 next Thursday, Feb. 22 to discuss the role of a publicist in the career of a jazz artist. RSVP directly here (and see our Facebook event page here).

3. THE GENIUS OF FRANK ZAPPA: The Ed Palermo Big Band has been playing and honing the music of Frank Zappa (among other composers) for over 20 years. These crafty interpretations stand as a testament to the longevity and originality of Zappa and his music. This music drives on its spontaneity and unpredictability. Palermo and his band bring this volatile music to life in a deft and powerful way, making it their own. Join us on this Thursday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. at Local 802 when Ed and his band will be comparing and contrasting Zappa's music with the great composers of the past, including Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Samuel Barber and others. Come relax between gigs and enjoy live music! Your donations will support the Local 802 Musicians' Emergency Relief Fund, which helps musicians in need. For more info, click here.

Enjoy our feature profiles of Jazzmeia Horn and Katreese Barnes, celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, read a powerful #MeToo response from the music world, and much more -- all in the February issue of Allegro. Story suggestions and feedback are always welcome and appreciated: click here!
