Awards Ceremonies
Yesterday St. Theresa's held two very special award ceremonies, one for grades 1-3 and one for grades 4-8. During these gatherings, we recognize students' achievements throughout the year including: academic excellence, most improved in subject areas, perfect attendance, citizenship and the Principal's Award. In addition, the middle school recognized the winners of the Science Fair, Modern Woodmen of America Speech Competition, and Honor Roll for all three quarters. Students are also recognized for service to the school in areas such as Altar Serving, Yearbook Committee, Tigers in Action service club, and Student Council. We are so proud of all our students for the effort they have put in throughout the year.

At the evening Awards Ceremony two very special awards were given out to our Partners in Education. This award is presented to individuals or groups who have given of their time, talent, or treasure to support the mission of the school, and enrich the school community on an ongoing basis. This year the award was presented to Fr. Gannon and the CEO Foundation of CT.

Fr. Gannon has been a huge support of the St. Theresa School community since he became the pastor. He takes time to visit the classrooms and start the day with prayer at the morning assembly.  He has invested in the infrastructure of the school installing a new boiler, the roof repairs, and parking lot to name a few. Fr. Gannon has made St. Theresa School's wellbeing and future a priority. He helps us to grow closer to the Lord and live our mission. We are grateful for his leadership and care.

The Children's Educational Opportunities Foundation of CT (CEO) is a non-profit organization that believes all students should have access to quality education. They partner with families in need within Bridgeport, East Hartford, Hartford, and New Haven to provide scholarships up to half of the tuition or $2,100. CEO has supported families of St. Theresa School for the last 10 years!  Mr. Vittoria said in his speech that without their partnership our community would not be what it is today with all our wonderful families, and we would have a difficult time keeping our doors open. CEO is currently sponsoring 32 students in our community.  Executive Director, Carolanne Marquis, and founder and president, Dr. Lew Andrews, joined us for the Awards Ceremony. Mrs. Marquis spoke beautifully about CEO's mission and how wonderful the St. Theresa students are: each an individual created unique and amazing. Parents and students were delighted to be able to thank them in person after the ceremony.

Mrs. Tamarkin was very touched by the show of love at the end of the evening.  She appreciates all that the St. Theresa community has given to her and her family over the last 14 years. She still expects great things from her students, and is looking forward to hearing all about them when she comes to visit.  Please ask God to send us the right person to continue to support St. Theresa's.  She is sure all the students will be great at supporting the future Tech teacher.
Ambassador's Program - Volunteer Request
To welcome and assist new friends and families during their transition to the St. Theresa School Community.

The NEASC visiting team recognized that we are a diverse community, who need to look to supporting the members of our community. To work towards that objective we invite you and your family to become and A mbassadors.

This is a new program that will help formalize how St.Theresa School approaches, nurtures, and welcomes new families into our community. To become an ambassador you need to have a child enrolled in the current school year and he or she should have attended St. Theresa for more than one consecutive school year. The ambassadors will help St. Theresa School's new parents become more quickly acclimated to the community. Ambassadors will be assigned to specific families who have a student in the same grade level.

As an ambassador, you would be expected to:
  • Reach out, introduce, and welcome new parents to the community
  • Share any relevant information about the school's expectations, handbook rules, etc.
  • Be accessible to answer questions and/or concerns (primarily by e-mail).
  • Encourage new parents to participate in school events and activities (i.e. meet the new family at the Ice Cream Social and/or Walk-a-thon to make introductions to other St. Theresa families).
  • Seek out new parents at St. Theresa events and help them to get involved in the community.
Please respond to the HSA email if you are interested in becoming an ambassador.  If you speak a second language, have community ties and knowledge or are just interested in making new friends please consider helping out.  Sue Turotsy will be the coordinator for this program.

Please use the link here to take the parent hot lunch survey.  This will help our new provider understand the needs of our school.  Thanks you. Students in grades 2-8 will be taking the Student Hot Lunch Survey in Computer Class.

Our thanks to the 5th grade for helping to develop the questions for this survey.

This summer, Mr. Brownell will be offering music lessons.  Summer vacation is an excellent time for students to improve their musical skills and/or start a new instrument ahead of the 2017-2018 School Year.  We accept beginners for incoming Gr. 3-6 on the following instruments:

Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion
Other instruments may be available; inquire with Mr. Brownell directly if you have an interest in an instrument not listed here.

In other schools across Connecticut that use Future Musicians, success has been noted in students who elected to start or augment their instruction over the summer.  Mr. Brownell has made the following dates available:

Thursdays: June 22, 29, July 13, 20, 27, and August 3, 17

Other dates may be available; contact Mr. Brownell if you need special accommodation.  The location will be either St. Theresa School or First United Church of Christ in Milford, CT.  The location will be determined by the level of interest in each date and will be communicated after sign-up.  If you need special accommodation of a particular site, please note that below.  The cost is $25 per half hour lesson ($35 for 45 minutes, or $50 for an hour).  Parents are encouraged to sit-in on the lesson.  Please circle the dates above that can you can attend below.

Please return this form and a check made payable to Daniel Brownell for the total amount of lessons you wish to take (for example if you circle two dates, you pay for two lessons) by Thursday June 9th.  Please return in a marked envelope.  The students signing up for the most total lessons will be given preference of time.  I will also be organizing students into like groups.  If you have questions or concerns please feel free to reach me at dbrownellband@gmail.com.  I will be in contact with all new parents to discuss instrument rentals and the required method book.

Sixth Grade Mariners
The sixth grade recently visited the Maritime Aquarium as a wonderful field trip. We enjoyed many exhibits including the Long Island Sound portion of the Aquarium. This tied in with our current Science unit on the Long Island Sound. We were also able to visit a few tanks where we could touch stingrays, small sharks, and jellyfish! We were also lucky to watch an eye-opening movie about people making a difference all around the world. We all had a great time, and special thanks to our teacher Mrs. Ronnow and our chaperones, Mrs. Mezzanotte and Mrs. Gallardo!

Fifth Grade Builds Geo-Cities
In Math, the 5th grade designed and constructed GEO-Cities. Each group had to create a unique city using only geometric shapes and figures. The creativity was outstanding!
