SURF
The PVHS Surf Team had a busy week. On Wednesday, they competed against Redondo High and came up short losing only by a small margin in marginal surf conditions. On Saturday, they entered the high school team challenge which pins multiple area high school teams against one another. It is comprised of both male and female surfers and both long and short boarders. It works similar to a relay where teams of six athletes surf up to three waves each that get scored by the judges and then that first surfer comes to the beach to tag the next teammate so they then surf their three waves and so on. It was a fun competition and PV High finished in second place, just behind Mira Costa.

GIRLS WATER POLO

PV v Pen - 2/7/18

In the final regular season Girls Varsity Water Polo contest between crosstown rivals, Palos Verdes HS and Peninsula HS, as in their previous meeting, the game came down to the final quarter and just one goal separating both teams. In the end, PV was victorious over Pen with a final score of 6-5. PV will advance to the CIF Playoffs beginning next week.

Palos Verdes maintained the lead throughout most of the game. A late rally flurry of allowed goals by PV brought Pen back within striking distance, closing the gap to within one goal. The winning goal by PV Team Captain, Izzy Barajas, would hold, bringing the final score, 6-5, PV.

PV Senior Izzy Barajas scored the game high 3 goals; a fitting way to celebrate her 18th Birthday and impressive high school water polo career. PV Sophomore, Tori Barezscored 2 goals, and PV Sophomore, Amanda Pricescored 1 goal.

PV v Redondo: 2/5/18

The rematch between these two teams on Redondo's home pool proved to be the most exciting game of the season.

Although Redondo were first to get on the board, Tori Barez (Sophomore) was the first to score for PV in the first quarter, followed by Barajas and Price. PV held the early in the game. That lead would shrink and fluctuate in a game that would prove to go back and forth, making it anyone's match til the end.

PV sophomore, Amanda Price made a strong showing at Center Guard with some great steals and 1 goal along with PV junior Haley Alexander who also scored 1 goal.

Despite feeling a bit "under the weather", PV senior Izzy Barajasled her team to keep PV in the game. Barajas, a PV senior finished the game with a total of 6 goals, including a decisive 5 meter goal in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 8.

With  3:14 to go in the 4th, Alexander scored to bring PV to 9 where'd they hang on to win 9-8.
