Devotion
A Final Word
Our theme verse (James 1:2-3) concludes with the word perseverance. Periodically, chapel speakers and devotion writers focused on our theme, sometimes directly on perseverance. Let's look at the verse once more.

Typically, and I did it this year, perseverance is considered to be a quality within us rather than shown toward us. God's perseverance toward us is infinite. Rarely do I truly persevere. Even the smallest hurdles tend to knock me off balance. And then I think of God's perseverance with me. It is a perseverance made visible on the cross. It is a perseverance that welcomes us back even as we walk away. It is a perseverance that loves us even when we are the prodigal child, which is often.

Join me in thanking God for a school year in which many times students and teachers persevered in the classroom, in relationships, and in our activities. But more importantly, thank God for persevering with us in spite of us. Grace is so good!

VL Announces New Pre-Paid Tuition Program
Purchase Future Tuition at Today's Rates!  Each year both the need for and cost of Christian education increases. Valley Lutheran High School provides students with an exemplary Christian education designed to prepare them to impact the world by nurturing faith, educating minds and cultivating leaders. To assist parents in their financial planning, Valley Lutheran High School is announcing a Pre-Paid Tuition Program giving families the opportunity to pre-pay future tuition at the current tuition rate.

For example:  You have a 9th grader entering Valley Lutheran High School in August of 2017. You may not only pay the tuition for her 9th grade year but you can also pay her tuition for as many of her four years as you would like at the current rate.

Or, a  generous friend or relative might celebrate a child's birthday with a gift of tuition at Valley Lutheran purchased at the current rate although it may be several years before the child attends Valley Lutheran.

The upcoming 2017-2018 school year is the final year for the annual pre-payment discount for tuition that is paid in full prior to the start of school. Future years of tuition paid at today's rates do not include the annual pre-payment discount. This year pre-paid tuition will be accepted until the first day of classes on August 23.  In the future, all pre-paid tuition must be purchased before August 1.

Do Something Crazy This Summer: Talk to Your Kids About Sex!
A recent study found that teenagers want their parents to talk to them about sex and that parents had more influence than friends. This is a surprise to most parents as the study also found that parents thought friends had more influence.

Uncomfortable? So are your kids.  The article linked here also includes several positive ways to begin a conversation.
The Powerful New Drug You Should Know
A powerful concoction of opioids, painkillers, and tranquilizers has hit the United States and is making it's way across the country. It's known as Gray Death, and is as dangerous and deadly as it sounds. Continue to talk with your students about the dangers of illegal drug use and making healthy choices.

The full article on Gray Death from NBC News can be found   here.
Leave a Life Legacy
When we think of leaving a legacy to our family we often think of money and other assets. Our years of experiences may be even more valuable to our children and grandchildren. Giving the next generation our earthly resources without informational, mental, emotional or value foundations can be like giving them a loaded weapon without instruction or caution. FINAL TRANSCRIPTS
Seniors enrolling in a college or university next year will need to request their final transcripts to be sent after graduation. These are only sent to the school you will attend in the fall, and are seen as a step in the final enrollment process. The office will begin processing these in mid-June. Directions for requesting these through Parchment can be found here . You can do this any time you are ready - just request that your transcript be held for grades.

SENIOR POEM
A copy of the 2017 Senior Poem was sent to all seniors via the Class of 2017 Google Classroom page. You can also find it here.

AP EXAM SCORES

IS YOUR STUDENT A SENIOR NEXT YEAR?
You can get a jumpstart on the college process by taking time this summer to research potential majors and schools. Decide what you want to do, then find the school that can best prepare you for that vocation that fits your wants and needs. Visit, research, and plan ahead - it will make this fall much less stressful!

PSAT/SAT SCORES RELEASED ONLINE
Scores for the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and SAT taken in April have been released to students online. If you have never used this website to view scores or register for a test, you will need to create an account at www.collegeboard.org to view your student's scores. If you have used the website before, you should be able to view scores by signing in and clicking on the appropriate test for your student. Schools are not given access to scores until mid-June, so the office cannot provide scores for you at this time. Schools are not given access to student account information, so we cannot help with forgotten emails or passwords, though many families have had success using the "Forgot Username?" or "Forgot Password?" links.
