Looking for indoor activities this coming rainy weekend?
Langley has some options for you!
Friday wraps up the regular season for basketball. Our teams will match up against South Lakes with the girls playing away and the boys at home. As this is the last home game for the boys,
they'll be celebrating Senior Night.
Come cheer on your fellow Saxons!
On Sunday, get ready for
some good laughs at the Capitol Steps performance (see below for more details). You can experience
intense competition and comedy all from the warmth of your seats in the Langley gym and auditorium.
And, if you're looking to fill more February days in your calendar, don't miss the band concert on Feb 21 and the Langley pyramid orchestra concert on Feb 22, both at 7 pm in the Auditorium.
Lastly, our snowed-out January Principal's Coffee/PTSA meeting has been rescheduled for Wed, Feb 28. We were happy to be able to coordinate this new date with our featured speaker, Dr. Heather Tedesco, so we can hear her presentation on "Talking To Your Teens About the Tough Stuff."

cold weather continues to cause delays and cancellations, be sure to check the Langley

The performance is this coming Sunday, Feb 11, at 7 pm in the LHS Auditorium. Don't know who the Capitol Steps are? View this link to see! Everyone is invited for a night of bipartisan fun!
Tickets are $35.00 and can be bought at the door (check or cash only) or through this link. Can't make it to the show? Buy a ticket and donate it to a Langley teacher or staff member. They need a good laugh every now and then, too.
Underclassmen, support your favorite junior or senior by buying your Capitol Steps tickets from them.

We appreciate the generosity
of the families who donated Capitol Steps tickets to the staff raffle.
Thanks to these donations, Jason McBeth (psychologist), Jan Dabroski (testing coordinator) and Mike Barrs (systems of support advisor) will be attending the show on Sunday night. More ticket donations would be welcomed as we didn't have enough tickets to give to all the staff members interested in attending. old t-shirts can help shelter animals

 Don't throw away your old t-shirts
-- they can be re-purposed!
I am a Girl Scout working on Gold Award and I am leading the Saxon Service Dog Toy Activity. Your old t-shirts are transformed into dog toys to benefit over 12 shelters in Virginia and New Jersey. I have two collection boxes for donations of t-shirts, both of which are in the new wing, the first is directly next to the band room, and the second is in the main office.

Samina Mondal and Ashley Zhang were among 7 FCPS students who earned Honorable Mentions from the National Center for Women and Information Technology, recognizing their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education.

Marshall Academy and George Mason U are hosting the 2nd annual National Engineers Week Youth Conference on Sat, Feb 17, 9 am to 2 pm, at the GMU Fairfax campus for middle and high school students. The conference will include workshop sessions on bioengineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering and cybersecurity. Attendees will get insider tips on how to pursue an engineering degree and will have the opportunity to network with guest speakers, future engineers, and IT professionals. Ken Harvey, former NFL linebacker and author, will serve as the keynote speaker. Click here to register for this free event (tickets are limited). All minors must be accompanied by a parent.

It's that time of year again when thoughts turn to AP testing.
School counselors proctor all the AP tests every day for 2 weeks, starting May 7. We need parents to supplement our ranks so we're sure to have all the proctors necessary to comply with AP regulations. The AP students always appreciate a friendly face. girls' basketball: Look who got covered in an article in the Washington Post! All three teams will conclude the regular season this Friday with games at South Lakes. Varsity will begin their quest for a third straight district championship next week.
swim & dive:
The team competed in the northern region swimming championships and had an AMAZING weekend of swimming. The men's team achieved a second place finish! Many swimmers improved their times, and five new team records
were set by Will Koeppen, Darius Truong, Casey Storch, and Tyler Zuyus. Those boys will be advancing to States, along with Chase Bradshaw, Johnny Bradshaw, Robert Luebke, Justin Gomez, Mason Greenblatt, Megan Jungers, Natalia Rongione, Erica Barton and Hanna Sun. We know they'll do a great job representing Langley!
Spring sports tryouts begin on Mon, Feb 19. Students must have the following to be eligible to tryout.
1. Completed VHSL form turned into the Activities Office. Click here for form.
2. Concussion Education program completed by student and one parent. Click here and complete now.
3. Emergency care form can be found here. Turn it into the coach's mailbox located in the Activities Office.

Many students take the summer to advance their academic program, t
o sharpen their skills, to learn something new, or to participate in fun camps and institutes. FCPS 2018 summer learning opportunities include a Credit Recovery Academy that offers credit recovery courses, intervention, and test remediation classes; a credit accrual program and summer institutes at TJHSST; online courses and classes, including Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance; as well as intervention and enrichment camps and institutes.

senior ethics forum - more adult volunteers needed!
|
This year our Senior Ethics Forum will be held on Tues, Mar 13 from 8:15 am to 2:45 pm and we need adult volunteers!
What is the LHS Senior Forum?
Seniors rotate through modules where an ethical dilemma is presented, followed by small or large group discussions.
We need volunteer table leaders to work with groups of 8 students to facilitate small group discussion in each module. A brief training session for table leaders is provided.
Why should I volunteer at a Senior Forum?
Since we all know that our kids talk and listen more when their parents aren't around, senior parents, teachers and school staff do not serve in this capacity, so
we need parents of underclassmen or adults outside of the Langley parent community.
